What?! We are not entertaining enough here for you at the MM. j/k LOL!!

I hear you man! That is another reason that I do like Wal-Mart. They are indeed open 24 hours when all of the other stores already done locked their doors for the night.

I am more of a night owl anyway. One never knows when one may need to take a quick trip to the store and check out the toy aisle at three or four AM. Hey! I have done it. Found some good stuff to that way.

Kind of like the Glade commercial on TV. They pronounce it Gluad A.

In 30 mins, I can make it to one of 8 WM Supercenters and 3 WM Marketplaces (grocery store only). Move up to 45 minutes, add at least three more Supercenters and at least one Marketplace.

We buy our food staples there, but not meat. Their meat sucks. They don't have butchers, everything is pre packed and just not good. More than once, I bought raw chicken, got it home and realize it is spoiled!!! I think they restock the meat people leave at the checkouts or on shelves.

Wal-mart is not a perfect company...honestly, you will not find one. They give to charities like most, hire a ton of people that they
treat well (and some they don't), and where else are you going to go to find a jar of peanut butter, an air filter, ear plugs, and a bottle of
advil all in the same place (my shopping list for today)?
            Target.

We have seven within 30 minutes +/- of here. In fact, Sam's niece, Ann Kroenke lives not even five minutes from here. Personally, I don't shop at Wal-Mart for various reasons, chief of which is lousy customer service.

There are 2-3 WalMart's in the next county over from me. I won't buy anything there unless it's a toy I can't find anywhere else. I used to work at a store like WalMart named TSS in my younger days, (Times Square Stores). So I know what goes on behind the scenes. Many rumors abound from WalMart about employees being treated badly;being underpaid. So I steer clear unless I can't avoid it. I will usually go to Target, CVS and we still have a K-Mart here.

Sad ending(?) for a once mighty super-store chain. I used to love K-Mart.

Sounds like our Kmart, the Biglot across the street from it is ussually in better condition, and if you have Biglots near you, you know they can be a mess inside.

You described my local K-Mart perfectly....an absolutely fithy, dirty store that hasn't seen any apparent upgrades/redesigns since the 80s....

Isn't this the same company that now owns Sears?

Walmart is depressing. The few times I've been there I leave just feeling bad about humanity. And low prices or not, I don't want to give them my money.

We are overrun with Wal-Mart stores, I couldn't even begin to tell you where to find a K-Mart anymore. Overrun or not, I would not shop Wal-Mart if they were the last store on the planet.

Reason #1 - Back in the late 1980's when our first local Wal-Mart was being built, I had the "honor" of sitting in a restaurant one booth over from the store's construction manager and it's new general manager. I couldn't help but overhear their loud conversation about what "rubes" we Michigan people were and the $1,000+ bet about whether they could put more local contractors out of business during the construction or more local stores during their first year of business.

Reason #2 - Hubby and I farm and our crops are sold through a state-wide co-op. Wal-Mart recently stopped purchasing crops from the co-op because they want to buy them for well, well under cost. Ummm,...no, we don't give our fruit away at a loss. The Wal-Mart officials gave quite the speech about "lowly farmers" and "retail giants".

It is Target or regional Meijer for me. Both of them actually pay a fair price for our crops!

Same feelings here. K-Mart used to be the bomb back when I was a kid. I can still remember people literally running to get to the blue light specials.

Now it is as if K-Mart could give two craps about even trying to compete. They continue too lay down and slide off in a downward spiral without even giving so much as a little fight in the market.

A lot of K-Marts have disappeared here in the Midwest. Their are only but a hand full left. Sadly, none of them show many any thing to really warrant me to go back.

If it were not for Sears K-Mart would have been extinct long ago. Sears must be using them for a write off or something.

I think they are still working off of old money and the new kids these days that have been put in charge could care less about running a major chain. Unlike their fore fathers that built the chain from ground up.

A lot of peeps still have the mind set that Wal-Mart is the cheapest place to buy everything. Of course that is not always true as you indicated above.

One has to be cautious as to what they purchase as Wal-Mart does not always have the cheapest prices on everything. In fact the bigger Wal-Mart gets the more expensive they will be getting as the competition fades into the background.
