A lady called me yesterday. I going to her house to look at her uncle's collection. He played at LSU in the 20's and was close friends with the basketball coach of LSU in the 40's - 60's.

This jacket was referred to me from some one on my site, because he couldn't afford it, so he called me.
As for this collection today, it was not as great as I expected, but still worth $1000+. I went over it with her, spent a couple hours telling her the history, what I thought the value of the stuff was worth, etc. She said thank you and said she will think about selling it. She basically used me to price her crap.sigpicComment

Different people I have met. One guy here in Baton Rouge does a sports show every Monday night. He is also a writer, so I met him at his house to get a couple books I have of his signed. The lady from toady is his neighbor, he referred her to me.

Your kind of like the Pawn Stars. Someone brings in an item, they arrange for an appraisal, etc. find out the item is worth $10,000 and the seller wants $10,000 for it or they don't sell it at all. I guess that's just part of being an expert in a particular collecting area. There will be those who will just use your knowledge but I guess the opportunites you do receive make these instances worth it.
I think I broke her, because she has since emailed me three times today, with more items she has found. Either that, or she is still using me!sigpicComment

She has shown her hand....she is ready to sell. I'd ask if you come look at the other items, bring cash in hand and lay it down in front of her for the entire lot. You would be surprised how quick the tune changes when you are physically there with cash in hand. It is easy to think about it when you are making offers over the internet, etc. but show up personally with cash in hand and force her to make a decision. I am assuming you are offering a fair deal....I would remind her of that and tell her that you are always on the prowl for LSU items and you have the cash now but might not have it a few days from now (especially if some other LSU treasure shows up)."The farther we go, the more the ultimate explanation recedes from us, and all we have left is faith."

Here's a picture of a few Redskins items from my collection. A 1934 program Boston Redskins vs. World Champion Chicago Bears at brand new Fenway Park, a 1935 Boston Redskins vs. World Champions New York Giants also at Fenway Park....orginial sheet music to Hail to the Redskins and a Redskins megaphone that appears to be late 1930's or early 1940's

Since this started off with some Louisiana flavor, I'm adding a piece from the pride of Louisiana Tech: Terry Bradshaw
I picked up a replica Bradshaw helmet from the Blonde Bomber's early years with the Steelers. Love the Dungard 205 facemask. It provides me the flexibility of sipping a Martini while wearing it during games.
