I just bought a really cool "portable" Magnavox Micromatic stereo record player from 1962. I found it at a thrift store for $6.00, and it still had the original tag still tied to the handle. Sounds great, I have it packed away right now while I do some basement rearranging, then I intend to set it up and use it. It weighs around 50 odd pounds. The speakers fold out, the turntable folds down, and the entire thing folds up into a large suitcase size package. Here's a similar ebay version:
My Atari 2600
Intellivision II
3 Shaun Cassidy radios
a Hardy Boys record player
2 of my VCRs (I have 3)
my boom box
the kitchen radio
the living room stereo
my bedroom stereo
this PC (almost 9 1/2 years old!)
"Do you believe, you believe in magic?
'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."
My house is chock full of old things that work perfectly fine and will not be replaced until they break,...much to the dismay of my husband.
In the living room, we rock to our early 1980's Sony stereo, complete with turntable, cassette deck and 8-track player. Tucked away in the drawer beneath the stereo is my first-and-only cassette Walkman and my first-and-only CD Walkman. In the office, I will answer your calls on my beautiful, blue rotary phone equipped with a classic, sterling silver receiver cover. In my kitchen, it is a tough call between my newer Kitchen Aid stand mixer and my Great-Grandma's Sunbeam stand mixer.
The basement houses as a large collection of technological miracles. It is there you will find my original Atari. Also in the basement, but not currently set-up is my Apple IIC. While my husband's interest in CB and ham radio dwindled with the advent of cell phones, we are still sporting a large collection of working radios.
However, it is the barn and hanger where our out-dated star shines it's brightest. There one will find our 1970's Wheelhorse electric lawn mower, which is conceivably the ugliest lawn mower in existence. We also have a 1946 Aeronica Champ and a 1947 Piper Cub,...old airplanes that go just barely fast enough to kill you when they crash. We also have an incredible stock of tractors. You need a John Deere A or a Farmall H, we have them. You need a potato harvester,...yes, we have two and know how to use them.
After reading this, no wonder the neighbors think we are weird! LOL
