I think if things are left alone they'll always work themselves out. You know, kind of a "water seeks it's own level" sort of thing. However, I've read about Russia and China attempting to undermine the dollar. I think even if (f.ex.) OPEC nations decided to only take euros, the States would be fine. Things would be more expensive, but it wouldn't end society.Comment

I work in the US and live in Canada. I remember around six years ago I would take my US dollar paycheque to my Canadian bank and get 50% more money with the exchange rate. Now instead I lose a bit of money with each cheque. I really miss the old days. Come on US dollar, get well again soon!Comment

Terrorists have been counterfiting US money for quite some time. That's why changed the way our money looks-and why they keep changing it. The watermarks, special holograms, hidden stripes, are all an effort to keep fake currency beyond terrorists reach and prevent them from compromising our money.Comment

Lots of folks do. I believe the instigators of the last big round were of the "18 year old with a really good printer" variety.

Well.... they WILL; but it might be in the way a sucking chest wound sorts itself out if left untended....

The Fed Govt started changing the look of the bills around '04, IIRC, because of the North Koreans. A flood of counterfeit hundreds, into the millions, were found in Italy and traced back to NKDP. They're the world's largest forgers because they have no currency value.Comment

I'm not exactly sure that if the dollar did collapse, it would turn the country into "Mad Max", but I would be fine with that. I live by the ocean, where pretty much an endless food supply exists. I have spearguns, bows and arrows, etc... I even have a crossbow in the rafters of the garage somewhere.I also have plenty of leather, SM gear and sports equipment to make one hell of a "Mad Maxian" wardrobe for me and my chick!!!

This is not a political statement but if the CHINESE currencey was to make a proper currection and adjust it self to real world trading funds i think then every one would be in trouble cause once the chinese dollar allows for proper inflation against its own and woorld inflation corrections ann ually then things would get bad , i think one analyst was saying if all of a sudden that $1.00 widget from the orient now cost say $5.00 wed be scrambling to get it cheaper and again iys a big circle we want cheap some ones gonna supply it cause their work force practically woorks on minimal to no wages , but heres the crook if we started re manufacturing we would re correct our economies sure things would suck for a while but things would balanace out remeber north america and alot of european countries are self sustainable its just corporate world wants to make as much profit with out the over headsigpicComment

I have heard all of the talk and do think there needs to be some belt tightening by our elected officials. With that said, the U.S. dollar is so glued to the world economy that a major crisis to the dollar would cause a global meltdown and not just affect the U.S. We are still the world's biggest consumers of products and services. If the dollar collapses, we stop buying, and in turn other currencies will fall in tandem."The farther we go, the more the ultimate explanation recedes from us, and all we have left is faith."
