I considered starting w/ the shovel, but with the wind blowing so hard it just wouldn't do me much good. I'll start tomorrow then cross my fingers that someone plows our road. I expect the authorities have a very limited number of 4 wheel drive vehicles to respond with. Public safety calls first, everything else would have to wait. Is anything open in Columbia - mall, restaurants, etc???

Someone told me the mall was, but I've seen posts on Facebook from certain mall businesses being closed. I know Gerbes stores are open (I work for them, though I called in and will tomorrow), but they're out of essentials like milk and bread and the trucks can't get to them for them to restock. Luckily, I'm scheduled off Thursday and Friday, so if I call in tomorrow I have a bit of time to chip away at this mess.Comment

Central Ohio got 1/4" of freezing rain last night, so this morning's commute was tough. One of the local news reporters had on ice skates, and was doing laps in a parking lot. The roads were OK, but walking to/fro your car was scary.
It picked back up during evening rush hour. We picked up another 1/4" of freezing rain, for a cumulative 1/2" or more. Now, branches, limbs & trees are coming down, and lots of people are losing power. However, I just woke up due to the noise of ice hitting my roof. Apparently, it's raining, windy and above freezing, and some of the accumulated ice is blowing off of trees. We're expecting winds of up to 40 MPH, so I guess I'm happy to be losing the ice beforehand.Comment

we missed out on frozen precip (at least for now), but it is about 15 degrees before you factor in the dam wind. It don't usually get that way around here and I am in a 100+ yo house that was built to pass air through on warm days. It is pretty chilly in mi casa.Comment

Got up this morning to find a few more inches.
Still blowing like a devil and drifting.
The whole town seems to have shut down...except walmart.
Over to my west about 40 miles, Springfield il, our news station said cops were issuing citations if you get out...they want roads clear for emergency crews.Comment
