    Candy in your pocket

Do you remember when you were in school, and you carried around some candy in your pocket? You'd smuggle it into class and pass it around to the other kids at your cluster of desks, usually during seat work or maybe when you had to line up? What kind of candy was it? And did you ever get busted? For me, it was Now & Laters, or Garbage Pail Candy.

Mostly wrapped gum like Double Bubble. I remember some of my Elementary School teachers were really laid back and had no problems with anyone chewing gum in class as long as it wasn't disruptive and you disposed of it properly. I did have one complete nightmare of a teacher in the 3rd grade who was old school and did things that would have had her summarily terminated in today's world. If you were caught with gum in your mouth, she would make you wear on your nose the entire day, get caught shooting a spit ball...she would make you sit in at recess every day until you filled a mason jar with spit (no kidding). I remember she even had a stool in the corner and a dunce cap!!! It seems unbelievable that she got away with this type of stuff but she did. Sorry to hijack the thread...the gum thing made me think of this particular teacher who doled out big punishments that were always made to embarass you.

Reggie bars and the old school stand by; Hershey bar. They melted all the time. We used to lick the chocolate off the wrapper. Good times. The best of times...

You start the best threads, Sharry. Depressing as hell, but good.

Reggies were fantastic but even as a kid I would not attempt to keep one in my pocket

It takes real skill to smuggle NERDS around the school (usually the gravel-in-a-box sound was a giveaway). But the sweet, sweet sour hit was worth it.

Don't get me started about the discipline thing, Rich, though I agree w/ you.

And I never thought when I wrote this thread that anyone would carry CHOCOLATE BARS in their pockets! Your moms must have LOVED you guys at laundry time!

And years ago, when I was teaching after school and had a small class, every Friday was bubble gum Friday, and I used to load up on nickel Bazooka Bubble gum. We saved all the comics, and made a big collage out of them!

I won't even comment on the discipline thing unless you have been through it. I never had to endure the shame but the dunce cap thing was almost surreal...I thought it was just a gimmick movie thing until I saw it first hand....and I can assure you that the offenses for wearing one were much less than what you see today.

I'm not asking a trivia question...just want the answer. There was a movie or tv show where a female elementary school girl made mention of having some candy in her pocket (gummy bears?) and them being warm or something along those lines...I'm banging my head trying to think of the movie.
