Back in the day did you think the future would be better ?

Back in the day --- the 70's for most of us, we all dreamed what our future might be like.

Not our personal future, but our future as a whole .....

Thinking about it now, I was so wrong and am very let down ......

We got no medical cures for anything decent .....

Cars still run on gas ... Gas is still expensive

The Soviet Union is gone, but how did that actually help us ?
We spend less on weapons ? ... If so, where is that surpluss cash ?

    Nothing new in space missions

Yes today everybody has a cell phone and a computer, but does that really make us better ?

I'm very let down it's about the same as it was 35-40 years ago.

Sorry for the rant ...... Was just remembering how cool I thought the future would be and it turned out about the same as it was 40 years ago.

Hell, we even have our version of Vietnam.

I guess I'm not disappointed exactly, but it is different than I pictured it. VERY different.

I pictured everything to be white and most furniture made of white plastic ...

Yes, that did happen --- it's called Walmart lawn furniture

As a teenager during the 80's, I was obsessed with nuclear war, and kind of felt that the world could blow up at any second, so in way, the fact that we're still here means that the world has turned out better (for me)
On a very serious note, the Rwandan Genocide and Yugoslav Civil War made it depressingly clear that not much had changed, and the world was just as dangerous as it was during the Second World War.

I don't think I ever put much thought into what the future would be like as a kid, maybe I'm weird.
Cellphones, email and internet, flights without that crappy airline food; things have turned out pretty nicely. Sure we're still killing each other, but mostly on a personal level, not the inevitable nuclear war that was feared in the 70's and 80's.

And there was no Jupiter II built in 1987!

I remember a weekly reader I got in school back in 1976 after the first test flight of the space shuttle. They talked about how by 1980 there was going to be 100 shuttles in the fleet and multiple launches a week as they built the space station (which was to be completed by 1990).
                            It's all good!

I remember back in the early 70's we had a school assignment. We had to calculate our age in the year 2000 and draw a picture of what we thought things would be like.
I was going to be 35 and I drew myself flying around with a jet backpack!

WHERE ARE THE FLYING JET BACKPACKS??????
