Long time Phins fan, too. What was doled out as punishment was enough IMO.
    It's all good!

Yeah, that cost him his job, but it was the final straw in a string of punching reporters, assaulting game officials, and creating a culture where his players were known to punch opposing teams.

One of Woody's friends once said of him, "Woody's idea of sublimating is to hit someone."

What's amazing to me in watching that clip is how Keith Jackson and Ara Parseghian could call the game and not realize what cleared the benches.

The first thing I thought of when I heard about the Jets incident was Tommy Lewis coming off the bench to tackle Dicky Maegle in the 1954 Cotton Bowl.
      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BoCf3WqVyx4

Now, that was spontaneous....he didn't even have a helmet on!

I remember seeing a clip of Tommy Lewis on the Ed Sullivan show and he said something to the effect of, "Mr. Sullivan, I guess I was just so full of Alabama."

The guy deserves a second chance...just like many other thug NFL players have gotten (Michael Vick anyone?)...that assistant coach is just a working stiff...he's not getting millions...this will hurt him and his family...he can't take a financial hit as well as those multi-millionaire players.

Yes, he did a dumbass move...but the end result was not devastating...it's over...just continue with the suspension...but let him work again.

If he's canned...then the NFL is the biggest hypocrite of them all.

Hector, I totally see your point and I agree 100%, though I had to change my mind about it (based on your point about the forgiveness of Michael Vick and the position of a lowly "working stiff").

However, I will tell you why I don't think the NFL will see it that way and it points to why they can justify being hypocritical.

They will never have to admit that they bent the rules for Vick or Roethlisburger or any other number of player (as a Superstar and therefore, "Revenue Stream") because what those guys did took place off the field and this was clearly on the field and aimed at an opposing player (as opposed to a dog or a "civilian") . That being the case, they can do whatever they want.

D, I get your point, too and it is exactly what the NFL will say.

As it relates to Vick...your words, "The guy was a bad *** athlete, he's a jerk but I guess everyone deserves a 2nd chance, now he's working with the Humane Society."

I'm not trying to play "gotcha". In fact, I have two minds on this subject and I'm seeing a lot of angles. I am just using you as an example of how we (and that apparently includes me), as fans, can make a distinction between "off the field" actions and what takes place on the field AND between the actions of a Regular Joe and a Superstar.

no i see what you guys mean, but keep in mind Vick's actions weren't on the football field and he still got fired and went to jail...was it enough punishment for what he did? i say hell no, but that's what the law said he had to do and he did it

now i believe this guy should get fired, let him start from fresh somewhere else, if later on he gets another shot then good for him...he's only sorry cause he got caught, i bet anything if there wasn't video to prove it, this idiot would be denying this

Watching Letterman right now and he just equated what this guy from the Jets got busted for to the fact that Favre took an "offensive snap" of his junk (photographic proof exists of both) and what has the NFL done to Favre.

What Favre did was off the field, BUT it was within the jurisdiction of the league.

lol He's retiring anyways so that's why they won't even bother...plus he really didn't break any laws...the chick didn't even care

but what about the other thing the jets did this year, another coach throwing balls towards the hot reporter and pretty much sexually harassing her, it's a low class organization and everyone knows it

You'd be singing a different tune had that scenario been reversed...a Jet Player and a Dolphin coach...

Michael Vick tortured and killed dogs.

                          Ben Roethlisberger assaults women.

So a lowly football assistant coach trips a player...now he's worst off than those two NFL stars.

                          Life is so fair...lol.

                            Yeah.
I'm a guy that has hated him (as a QB) for most of career right up until last year with the Vikes. If he would have just walked away after that NFC Championship game (and never taken a picture of his bits....Dudes, how about none of us EVER do that...it ain't a picture, it's EVIDENCE), I might have had a soft spot in my heart for him like I have made for countless other players through the years.

That don't make a difference to me...football games are meaningless in the whole scheme of things.

The laws are made by man, and can be changed by man...the powers to be gave Vick a ton of slack...had it been you and I...we would both still be in prison earning 20 cents a day.
