    The Cars....ARE BACK!!!

..of course Ben Orr has passed away but at least Ric Ocasek is now onboard and the new tracks sound like classic Cars!!
Here are the samples of a couple of the new songs being promoted virally.

    The Cars - Sad Song

    The Cars - Blue Tip

Do I hear sell out shows if they tour?

They sound ok, (100% better than The NEW Cars) but without Orr it's like McCartney remaking the Beatles without Lennon.

Better than nothing, that's for sure.

I don't see how, as Ocasek wrote virtually all the Cars hits,
and sang on a lot of them... AND on more than half of the ones
that Orr sang, Orr was doing a smoother interpretation of Ocasek's
              voice anyway.

I agree...the lead Singer(front Man)is the Band. Ben Orr is replaceable.

Just to be fair, many times it DID seem that Orr was fronting the band
in some respect, because he took lead vocal duties... but that's IT....
just some lead vocals, many of which he was mimicking Ocasek's vocal delivery/style.

Orr's shining moment was the DRIVE single, as that leaned more towards
Orr's "real" voice.... however, as essentially all Cars hits were,
DRIVE was (again) written by Ocasek.

I actually started believing it a few months ago when I saw a photo of them all in the studio together. Even if it's not their best stuff, I'm still glad to hear some new music from these guys.

What I like the best about this new music I've heard so far is not so much
the songwriting, but the tones.... the guitar particularly evokes
an early CARS sound possibly even more than their biggest record
HEARTBEAT CITY does. With these older acts, some familliararity goes
                        a long way with me.

Not bad, I was really into the Cars many years ago.
