Japanese is not only about sushi and sashimi (although I do love that stuff anyway).

Ever tried Kobe beef? Tempura shrimp? Teriyaki chicken?

    Yeah...that's what I thought...

We have occassionally taken our kids out to a local Japanese restaurant for their birthday for Hibachi style cooking. The food is decent albeit expensive but most of the fun is in the show. The chefs at our restaurant flip around knives, food, etc. with precision and all have a good sense of humor. They do have a tradition of flipping a small piece of shrimp for you to attempt to catch in your mouth after everyone is served. These guys basically put it right there at your mouth to catch but you can always opt out if you don't want to participate.
