    Cr*p restaurants!

A while back, we went to this Japanese restaurant, with the chef standing in the middle, surrounded by hot plates, and the customers around that, getting served. This guy obviously enjoyed putting on a show, but he didn't have the talent. He chopped up food, everybody had to open their mouth, and he would then pitch it in. Ahum...
This guy wasn't Daredevil's archenemy Bullseye, I can tell you. He missed ten times out of ten. My wife gets cranky when she's hungry, so in the end she picked up her food off the ground and chucked it back at him, scoring a direct hit.
That's Belgium 1-Japan 0. We still haven't forgiven them for WWII....

Even more back, we went to this restaurant called Pyro.
You might think that this is where the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants' favorite firestarter ended up, but his powers were...unpredictable, to say the least.
He first went round to take orders, racked all the meat on a large grill, and started "cooking".
After a while, all meat was totally ablaze, we're talking Towering Inferno here. I was expecting OJ Simpson to come in, but no, Mr. Pyro calmly grabbed a bucket of water and put everything out. He then calmly scooped the scorched treats on plates and everybody got served in no time.
No wonder the X-Men always win those fights.....
    .

That would never happen to me because I don't like Japanese food.
Chinese and Thai, OH YES !!!!!!!!!!!!
    But not Japanese

BTW, he chucks the food in your mouths ?
For sanitary reasons I don't think the US health department would allow anyone to do that here.

I don't think you and I will ever agree on anything...lol.

Japanese is not only about sushi and sashimi (although I do love that stuff anyway).

Ever tried Kobe beef? Tempura shrimp? Teriyaki chicken?

      Yeah...that's what I thought...

There are "Benihana-type" places where that is done across the US.

However, given the litigious nature of our society, it is ill-advised.

Coming from a land locked, meat and potatoes locale, the food in Japan was one of the most exciting discoveries I made in my three years there. I was a little worried I wasn't going to like it, but that fear went straight out the window the first day I was there.

Besides traditional Japanese Dishes, I loved their spin on Western Food. One of the best hamburgers I've ever eaten was from a Japanese fast food place called Mos Burger.

The top Japanese chefs have mastered other world cuisines...they are highly regarded.

Was that burger Kobe beef...or ordinary regular ground beef?

I think they get their beef from New Zealand. Nothing upscale, but the toppings and sauces are what put it over the top. It was the first place I ever saw a fried egg on a burger. That seemed to be kind of in style, at the time.

Here is a link to their site.

One thing you will notice in the photos is the presentation. The Japanese are very big on presentation and a lot of restaurants have these intricate window displays of their food items....made out of plastic. One can be passing by on the street, stop at the window to check out the displays, and if something catches your eye....you just go in and order it.

Had that pulled on me, as well.

Within days of being in Japan, some of the dudes I worked with took me out the town for some gyoza (this version was a fried version of a pot sticker dumpling). The gyoza was served with a yellow mustard mixed with wasabi for dipping. I was told it was the best honey mustard ever and to just go ahead and load up on it.

                            I bit.
