Man, I have eaten from nearly every culture on the planet it seems, and have had some 'odd' bits, but a RANCID FETUS?? No way in HELL sir....

As to that show, thats pretty cool. They recently filmed one of those shows here - but not Zimmern's show though, a similar one maybe? (Dives and Diners sound right?)
Zimmern is a gourmand for sure, but many of the things that he eats for 'shock value' are beyond grotesque...Fish offal putrified in a rinsed-out Pepsi bottle? Dumplings mixed with saliva and left in the sun to curdle?? ...Jesus man, come on...
Zimmern will even eat grilled intestines with feces in them...that's where I draw the line...

The Birds is a GREAT movie. Very intense. I already had a bird phobia before we watched the movie.

My earliest memories of the start of my bird phobia was when one of my neighbors picked up a dead chick that had fallen out of its nest...crusty and dried up it was...and he waved it in front of my face when I was five or six years old. I don't know if that is the cause of my phobia.

My phobia is a little bit more under control now but I still refuse to sit at a table where I know there is a little dead duck curled up around its yolk. It's not really a rancid fetus. It wasn't rotting or anything when they boiled it...it's just half-formed duckling. But it's freaky nasty and I'm scared of it. And it does have that balut smell. Gag!!!!

One of my Chinese friends, and this really surprised me, really hates bagoong simply because she said the shrimp tasted too fishy. Plus it smells really bad, but the smell of it makes my mouth water. You'll just have to try it for yourself. I love dipping my fresh fruit in bagoong. It just makes it taste more divine. My husband always asks me if I really need to eat my fresh fruit in that and the answer is always yes. You can buy jars of this shrimp paste if Louie doesn't have any. It also tastes better if you pan fry bagoong with some fresh garlic. Ghanaians have their own version of bagoong and it's sooooooooooooooo good. Just very spicy. God I miss that stuff. We don't have any Ghanaian friends anymore, lost touch with that community, so we don't know where to get some more.

Louie was just telling me yesterday that he loves Mangos and Bagoong. He and his wife go up to Tampa periodically and stock up on supplies. I can ask him about that Ghanaian version. Would you like some if he can get it?

That would be cool. I don't think you will find it though. I just have to find myself a set of friends from Ghana.

Oh yes...mangoes, bagoong, and some tomatoes. Good stuff with fried fish!
