1)
4) The custom Frankenstein megos I made to give out, went over about as well as my ape feet did here in the muzz. One rather loquacious little boy gave me a 5 minute dissertation on how I need to be giving out candy and not toys that had small parts that could possibly be a choking hazard for children. Another kid actually picked it back up out of his bag, looked at it, then handed it back to me shaking his head, saying; "I can't accept this, it's not wrapped..."

Sorry for the low turn out. If it is any consolation the kids in my neighborhood would probably have gone crazy of someone handing out a Frankie figure. Our town always does a main street gathering the Thursday before Halloween, there is a community center happening always on the Saturday near Halloween, and then there is Halloween itself. By then the kids are pretty candied out. We had less older kids than last year, but all of the young kids in the neighborhood had fun. I pretty much have a "candy hangover" today. Best turn out in 12 years, tons of kids, made me happy to see Halloween alive and well. Star Wars was big with boys with girls I saw a big variety, even a Dorothy from Oz.
I gave out some Monster sticker sets I designed a few years ago, kids love them and teens don't really want them. I only had two teens and they were laughing when I opened the door.
My sleestak and mummy scared a bunch of kids, I had to give a lot of their treats to their parents, I felt bad.
My kids scored HUGE including one house that said "We're done for the evening" and gave my kids their entire candy bowl. We paid it forward.Places to find PlaidStallions online: https://linktr.ee/Plaidstallions

It also just struck me to add this conversation from my facebook page:
Tom U.: Thanks to the children of Long Beach our well stocked candy coffers
are now empty. WoW I guess its on to the nickels and fruit bars.
Hugh A.: "Fruit Bar" was my highschool nickname.
(Happy Halloween Tom & Ellen!)
Ellen R.: thanks, Hugh! i thought we'd have some snackies for later, but the
kids wiped us out! 150 pieces!
-----------------------------------------------
The reason why I put this ^^^ ...is not only for the "T.O.T." data...but also,
"Long Beach" can't be all that far from Huntingdon Beach, can it?"No. No no no no no no. You done got me talkin' politics. I didn't wanna'. Like I said y'all, I'm just happy to be alive. I think I'll scoot over here right by this winda', let this beautiful carriage rock me to sleep, and dream about how lucky I am." - Chris MannixComment

We have a huge turnout and a great time in our neighborhood every year. We easily have 150 kids stop by. 3 houses in a 4 block area have fantastic setups where you walk through mini funhouses set up in their yards. The fire hall, which is a few blocks away, has a set up inside also. A couple years ago I set up a mini photo studio in my driveway and shot photos of all the kids in their costumes, which I made into a coffee table book. Every year since then a bunch of the kids ask why I don't do that anymore, so I will have to set it up again next year.Comment

Our church does a "Trunk or Treat" where everybody parks in the parking lot, opens their trunk (and usually decorates it), and hands out candy. We had 50 cars giving out candy and over 300 kids showed up. We also served hot dogs and chili.
The community I live in is very rural, so something like this is a big hit since parents don't have to drive 50 miles in a night to make it 20 houses.Comment

My area has a choice of doing regular door to door trick or treating, or the family can come to the YMCA for a Halloween party.
The YMCA has games for the kids and gives away candy and food.
The YMCA does this every year.
I think they charge $5.00 for adults (to help pay for the party).
Kids are free.
They usually have a really big turnout.Comment

First, the frankenstein idea was great Sandy and I agree with your other comments.
We had a decent turnout but nothing spectacular. I had at least 4-5 groups come back for seconds.
I usually dress up but didn't this year as we had a full day. I make the kids say trick or treat or they don't get anything (this applies to those who should know) for the teens if they are not in costume they get nothing, unless they sign the National Anthem or recite the Pledge of Allegiance. My Custom Figures

Halloween in our town is always a big thing. Our "Main Street" is Halloween central and the houses there seriously get hundreds and hundreds of kids. In fact, our town essentially contributes to buying candy so these houses can hand it out to the kids in our town and several surrounding communities. Kids and parents alike are usually decked out in Halloween garb. Some of the houses have incredible set-ups with great themes - I saw Neverland this year, a gallery of classic movie slashers (Jason, Freddie, etc.), among other great set-ups. Mario and Luigi seemed to make a come-back in the costume department, Star Wars still there, and a lot of cool Marvel Super-hero outfits - Captain America and even a Thor. Saw an occasional Werewolf, one mummy and a lot of vampires. I didn't see one Frankenstein, which is a disappointment.Comment

My Batman costume got a big response out of boys age 3 to 8 or so. It's the mask and the cape. Even a dog would look like Batman in it. But I had kids stop mid street and gape at me. I made sure to be un-Batman-like and smile at them and wave. Some were a little scared until I did that. One kid ran away from his mother and up the street to meet me. That was a bit disturbing.
Andrew was a bit miffed that few kids recognized him as Robin. Robin has been out of the majority of mainstream Batman adaptations for too long it seems. Maybe Young Justice will help. The adults all knew who he was though!
We actually saw a young girl in a homemade Bride of Frankenstein costume. It was great! Saw several Dorothys, and even and a Scarlett O'Hara!!!

We had a great Halloween. Hosted a costume party in our front yard and had over a hundred young and old alike in costumes. Our little town has a concentration of houses where everyone in the county goes, so it feels pretty "full". It's a very "Norman Rockwell/Charlie Brown" nostalgic type feel to Halloween in our little town.Comment

Turnout in my neighborhood was down this year, but we still had a steady stream. My fave was a pair of oompa loompas who nailed the look. I'll get our pics up later of my kids "heroing up."Comment

Since Halloween is my Dad's birthday (and my kids are too old now) we go up to their place for dinner & cake and ice cream. Afterwards my Mom, wife and daughter sit on the front porch and pass out the candy. My parents live in a pretty good neighborhood. They had about 300 kids in about 2 hours. Halloween is alive and well here.sigpic WANTED: Boxed, Carded and Kresge Carded WGSHComment

I think technology really killed most of Halloween in this area. You see next to no one out anymore. If the younger kids do go out, it is in groups to the Malls where they can safely trick or treat rather than the still safe neighborhood.
Halloween ended here with my generation. After that it was playstations, sega, computers and this kids no longer caring.
