One rather loquacious little boy gave me a 5 minute dissertation on how I need to be giving out candy and not toys that had small parts that could possibly be a choking hazard for children. Another kid actually picked it back up out of his bag, looked at it, then handed it back to me shaking his head, saying; "I can't accept this, it's not wrapped..."

I miss the 70's SO bad, it's not even funny.

I think this was my best Halloween since moving into this house 4 years ago. I too, gave out toys, but I had more kids than I thought, so I broke into my "retro candy stash" and gave out some suckers as well. But this one kid saw I was giving out toys and ran down my steps telling his buddy, "She's giving out toys!" The bell didn't ring a lot, but there were kids in groups, (2 vans pulled up and like 10 kids jumped out) and I even saw some of my own center kids, which was cool. I thought you were joking when you said you were giving away custom Megos. I thiink they would have gone over big here. (At least w/ the boys). Back in the day, that would have been a hit. And if you have any left TRICK OR TREAT!!

We have a local event in the central park in my small town. It gets bigger and bigger every year. Many local businesses come out and make up a table or an event and all the kids parade around in their duds. They also host a costume contest and we have taken the 'family' award a few years running. We had some competition this go around (never happened before) and that was really cool. The family dressed up as werewolves was outstanding - they even had an infant with black cotton fluff fur growing out of his face. Awesome!!

People tend to go out to the nearby neighborhoods from the park and those houses probably had about 150 treaters. Some folks even organize 'hayrides' in pickups or trailers and go from the central park to other 'hubs' of houses that are serving and then the kids pile off and canvas the area.

I definitely saw more parents out with their kids, even the tweeners, and many of the adults had some sort of costume on as well.

So I guess it really depends on where you live anymore, and whether or not there is a large population of kids and adults willing to go out with their kids.

I actually think Halloween is getting more popular around here. There are dozens of Halloween stores in my area. Lots of progams on too. The trick or treaters are just a small peice of the whole pie, however. No matter what, it is still my favotire holiday.

We had 180 trick or treaters, which is down from our usual 200-250, but the weather was cold and rainy/snowy. The last few Halloweens have all been pleasant nites.

I saw many traditional costumes and don't even recall anything "sexy". The costume I saw the most was Mortal Kombat-style Ninja costumes. 2nd place would have to be evil clowns for the older kids..

I saw a bunch of those too, I kept thinking I'd opened a portal to 1994.

Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. This year it seemed not to many people were giving candy out in our small town. We had a lot of kids show up and gave a lot of candy out. I estimate it was probably around 300 to 400 kids. After about 8pm we got the older kids so we stopped giving out candy at around 8:45 pm. They have a pretty good system here. Theres a town emergency horn that sounds off when trick or treaters can start which is usually around 5:30 pm and the horn goes off at 8 pm to tell the kids its time to wrap it up. I sat at home watching the football game and giving out candy while the wife and kids went out trick or treating. They seemed to have had a good time.

We had 24 kids out on a trailer in a somewhat hidden subdivison which typically ends up filling the kids bags. There were fewer houses giving stuff away this year, but a lot more people out there competing for treats. Our neighbors had only 15 kids stop by and 5 of those 15 were mine.

My Halloween lasted about a week and had very few kids involved at all. I have 4 different Halloween costumes and 4 parties. It was a great time and I saw some amazing costumes, but it really didn't relate much to kids.
