Some observations about this Halloween;

1) Every single girl I saw wearing a costume throughout the day, whether she was 5 or 45, was trying to be way too sexy... In other words, all the female characters that were being portrayed; Wonder Woman, Vampire, Princess, Witch, etc, looked like the "stripper version" of that character. High heels, short dresses, low cut tops, very extreme make-up, thigh high boots, etc...

2) There were even fewer trick or treaters than we had last year, and last year we had 11.

3) I saw WAY more adults in costume than I did kids.

4) The custom Frankenstein megos I made to give out, went over about as well as my ape feet did here in the muzz. One rather loquacious little boy gave me a 5 minute dissertation on how I need to be giving out candy and not toys that had small parts that could possibly be a choking hazard for children. Another kid actually picked it back up out of his bag, looked at it, then handed it back to me shaking his head, saying; "I can't accept this, it's not wrapped..."

I miss the 70's SO bad, it's not even funny.

I think Halloween is slowly fading away.

I'm guessing the reason is Halloween used to be mostly a kids thing.

Today, most parents (our generation) are into it as much as the kids -or maybe more ... Perhaps this turns the kids off --- after all, anything you do with your parents can't be cool (in a kids eye).

Today, most parents (our generation) are into it as much as the kids -or maybe more ... Perhaps this turns the kids off --- after all, anything you do with your parents can't be cool (in a kids eye).

I don't know how much that can make sense... mainly because
by the time kids are old enough to think what their parents do "isn't cool",
the kids are past "prime Halloween age" anyways. (4-10 years old)

Also, when I was a kid...my parents and friend's parents loved dressing up... the only thing that may have changed since then are the dynamics of behavior kids and adults too... but as I pointed out...i don't think your average 8,
9, 10 year old is too concerned about rebelling on Halloween tradition
and certainly not the 4-7 year olds....it's free candy for chrissakes.

I think the only thing that's really changed here is that society in 2010
isn't too impressed with the holiday traditions of Halloween... so many more
distractions inside the house/outside the house to water down "the magic"...
and it doesn't carry the religious heft that Christmas does.

In the 70s...Halloween ruled because there was nothing much else to do
except go inside and watch a few channels on your rinky dink TV.

Halloween is not big here, but it is certainly getting a lot more popular each year.

This year I read in the local newspaper about a father who is anti-Halloween finally giving in to his kids after years of nagging.

However, he stipulated that they had to collect food for the homeless... not a bad idea IMO. And yeah, he had some candy for them when they got home

It's always a big scene in my neighborhood. Tons of kids of all ages. We gave out a lot of candy and could have kept going but were getting tired.
We tricktreated just as darkness fell to avoid the crowds and that was a wise move.
Not a lot of sexy outfits over here, so the few I saw were still novel enough to enjoy the ogle. LOL
Lots of dressed up adults, but no more than I usually see year after year.
I think Halloween is going strong, but my boy, when reflecting at the end of the night, decided that he actually doesn't like it as much as he thought he would or should.
I bet he will be excited again next year, though.

We had around 20 trick or treaters, including the obligatory 4 college kids with their "hoodies" up in place of costume, and two or three high school girls that giggled constantly.

Two or three churches in the area did something called "trunk or treat" where the members decorate their cars and the kids parade through the church parking lot getting candy from each trunk. I think a lot more kids go to these events instead...the parents consider it a safe alternative to door to door, less walking around, plus they usually have hot chocolate etc inside and the advantage of a bathroom. My daughter went to the local houses on our block, then up to the church, where she got a hefty booty (also it was the "good" stuff, Hershey bars & Snickers).

And if you have any of those "unwanted" Frankensteins left..TRICK OR TREAT!!!

When I was younger we made our outfits over two weeks spent a lot of time , now its some all made up crap from e bay they think that's enough its kinda sad I was an 80s kid money was not in abundance so we made do with making it all up , its all too contrived and tacky and as you say Sexy , i mean sexy on Halloween?? surely it was about having some fun and dressing up and having a laugh.... for me i like old fashioned Halloween

We had about 8 kids total, with I think, 4 knocks at the door. One was a group, the others were mostly pairs.

My neighborhood is one that should be conducive to Trick or Treating and I see kids out and about all during the year, so I'm shocked that we never have much in the way of kids on Halloween. I think it's a combination of three things:

1. Kids aren't as impressed these days. Halloween is more about haunted houses than getting candy.
2. Trick or Trunk, Mall Trick or Treating, etc are killing the neighborhood gig.
3. Parents are stupid now and think everyone is a rapist and pervert so they force kids into going to these alternatives.

It's crazy that Halloween is now definitely more for 18-40 year olds than it is the kids. That's fine with me cause I'm not a kid anymore, but it's still odd. I do think there are still some neighborhoods that have huge turnouts, but it's not like it used to be and every neighborhood had a turnout.

Note about the festivities: Of the few kids we did have, I gave out some extra little parachuter guys (reviewed on IH) and one kid who spotted them in my bowl as I was giving out candy, thought I didn't give him one and actually reached in and took one. I was surprised by the balls on this like 6 year old kid to reach into my bowl as I was giving candy to his sister.

Another kid actually requested M&Ms. I didn't have any, naturally. Requests though? I mean, ***? I was giving out good stuff!

One kid came by in a Mortal Kombat-esque costume and we had an odd moment. I knew that I wasn't going to be getting more Trick or Treaters and he looked to be about 11, so I gave him a fair amount of candy, but he didn't really say trick or treat and we just stood there looking at one another for a few seconds, lol. I wished him a Happy Halloween and he said thanks.

You naysayers are in the wrong area. My old neighborhood was PACKED!!! We start at out my Dad's house (where I grew up) and go up and down the street. This was the first year where we actually had trouble getting up and down the street, it was so busy. My dad went with us, so he didn't give out candy, but my uncle who lives up the street had 468 kids!!! That's about 100 more than his previous record. My aunt counts kids ever year.

Halloween is alive and VERY well in Cynthiana, KY!

I did see a lot of scantily-clad tweens and teenagers (who shouldn't be trick-or-treating, legally), but the little kids around here were covered up pretty well last year. The outfits were ****tier last year on the whole.

We had a healthy turn out too. One of the better years, actually. We definitely under bought on the candy.

My four year old had an absolute blast. Probably the first year that he understood what was going on and was legitimately excited, and not just following Dad's lead.

We only had 1 pair of non family member trick or treater's. I think we (the general term for the world) have become too cynical and simply refuse to have fun. My "we" however did have fun and knocked on a couple doors but it was pretty quiet on the streets. I think Halloween falling on a Sunday this year probably added to the low turn out.

Sadly, in my old neighborhood in Little Rock (3 hours away) my Mom said that she didn't get any. That's okay though... more for me and the kids!
