    Collect 8 track tapes

Hi, does anyone else on this board collect 8 track tapes?

I started collecting just over a year ago and I can't stop.
Alot of people I talk to, find it really odd and at the same time cool.
Most of them have a great sound and seem to still hold up over the last few decades.

I know a few other people on here collect this format. But as most of you would have grown up in the 70s, I thought that I would ask.

I wasn't born until 1987, but my dad always told me about the collection he had.

Back in the day I used to love 8-tracks.

I felt bad when cassettes overtook them in the 80's because 8-tracks had better sound.

Only prob was everytime you play an 8-track it might be your last - because players loved "eating" them.

Oddly enough, I have never had a problem with the tape chewing.
Do you still have a collection? I have found it to be a great hobby, growing up in a digital age.

Nah, I got rid of mine back in the 80's

I still remember, the last 8-track I ever bought new in the store was Dire Straits Communique

I don't really collect them, but I still have a couple KISS 8-tracks that I bought when I was a kid. I don't have anything to play them on now though.

i wouldn't say I collect 8 tracks but I have been known to pick them up when I find some I like and they are cheap and in good condition.
I have had about a 75% success rate with tapes not breaking or getting eaten or sounding decent.
I used to have a 79 Chrysler with a factory 8 track player so i would pick them up quite often at thrift stores back then.
My most recent finds were some barely used ABBA tapes at a thrift store, still had shrink wrappers although they had been opened.

The only 8-tracks I have are the ones that go to my Mego 2XL and my Omni game.

I only had a handful back in the day (KISS "Rock and Roll Over" being one of them) but they went the way of a garage sale many moons ago....The portable player too

I have the original Star Wars soundtrack on 8-track. Currently I colelct vinyl LPs but I imagine if I had an 8-track player I might collect them. Seems like a pretty cool thing to collect.

I've got about 100 or so. I picked up a 8 track Panasonic TNT player a few years ago at a garage sale and then started buying up a few 8 track tapes. I usually buy them in lots at garage sales so I take the bad with the good. It's fun and I usually only have to pay a dollar or two to buy the lot. Since then I've added a couple more 8 track players. It's a good cheap side hobby.

I collect them off and on ... I have about 50 ... most were from my older brother and sister. I have stuff like AC/DC, KISS, Fleetwood Mac, Eddie Money, Cheap Trick, Waylon Jennings and a ton of John Denver (he was my sister's favorite lol)

I have a nice working vintage player with lp player combo from 1975.

I would have probably about three hundred 8 track tapes in my collection. Sometime this week, I should be receiving about thirty five more.

They are a really cool thing to collect, so far I have about six players. These players consist of two stereo units, a portable 8 track player and three car stereos.

I noticed that any punk 8 tracks seem to be the rarest, although others can sell for over a hundred dollars each.
