Should a 12 year old date a 17 year old?

I don't know if a 12 year old should be "dating" anyone except possibly other 12 year olds, but I have to wonder what the heck kind of 17 year old dude would be interested in a 12 year old girl.

There would have been merciless "riding herd" on a Dude who even thought of that back in my day. Good night, when I was 17 I was chasing after college chicks or maybe girls my own age, but it seemed like younger girls, at that point, were still kind of little girls to me.

HELL NO! Makes you wonder if his parents realize he is doing this. I can understand the girl saying yes, but I can't reconcile the man asking, and at 17, he's a man, and she's a pre-teen. This isn't the 1850's (or the 1950's, considering Elvis and Jerry Lee Lewis). I'd have a problem if she was 14, but I could somewhat understand it given the maturity level of girls. This is bordering on pedophile territory though, and the school system is largely to blame here. 12 year olds should not be going to school with people old enough to go to war.

Glad to know I'm not the only one bothered by this.But still can't believe a parent would be okay with this.

My daughter is 14 and if a 17 year old was trying to date her I would slap the crap out of him. So I guess I would have a bigger problem if she were 12.

I am amazed with this guy at work, he was telling people about his daughter going to Home Coming over the weekend,the big deal I thought was she is only 12 and she has a boyfriend that's 17.Now my wife is 7 years older than me so the age seperation isn't what surprised me.Its the fact is she is only 12.The way the have schools set up here now is k-6 goes to one school and 7-12 goes to another so I thinking this might become a common thing,but when our daughter was 12 there is know way we would have let her do it.Have I just become old fasion?
