Prolific TV producer Stephen J. Cannell dies

    Eds: APNewsNow.

NEW YORK (AP) - Stephen J. Cannell, the prolific writer-producer of dozens of TV series that included "The Rockford Files" and "The A-Team," has died at age 69.

Cannell passed away at his home in Pasadena, Calif., on Thursday night from complications associated with melanoma, his publicist said on Friday.

After three decades as an independent producer of TV shows, Cannell in recent years had focused his attention to writing books, and had published 16.

As an actor, he had a recurring role on ABC-TV's series, "Castle."

He wrote a lot of my favorites over the years.

      RIP

Not to be flip about it, but I could imagine this being played at the end of his memorial service.

        RIP.

I'm a bit taken a back by this one. I guess it's because, just a copule of days ago, I was reading about Doc possibly doing GAH figure again. Cannell was discussed in that thread.

I've actually met Mr. Cannell a couple of times, once we were in the same coffee line in L.A.

He was very cordial guy who actually remembered me and didn't run away when I got a kinda geeky with him (I was hoping he had the GAH prototypes stashed away). He also gave me a copy of his novel "King Con" and autographed it.

wow, this hurts! Mr. Cannell was a bit of a hero of mine. I was a fan of just about every show he created or worked on.

I e-mailed him years back, never expecting an answer. Ended up talking back and forth a bit. Great guy. As Palitoy said he was very cordial. I was very impressed he had time for goofball fans like myself.

                He will be missed!

I've read several of his books, and 'King Con' is one of his best. Sorry to hear about him dying. Cancer sucks - I'm sure he had several more years of living in him.
