    Do nephews,nieces call you uncle/aunt ?

I never thought about this before, but none of my nephews or nieces call me uncle... and I have a lot of them.

They just call me Mike, Mikey or sometimes hey

I never told them too, they just always did as well as how they refer to my sibs (no uncle/aunt) either.

Weird thing, when MY aunts and uncles were alive I never would have dreamed of calling them by their first name (without the uncle/aunt first).
If I did i'm guessing my mom would have set me straight really quick

Just wondering if anyone else is on a first name basis with their nephews and neices ?

my sisters kids all call me uncle. my brothers kid bareely says a word to me so I don't know what she would call me. kind of a standoffish kid.
I am with you though Mike, never would have dreamed of calling an aunt or uncle by their first name without the title first
    .
kind of goes hand in hand with what kids call adults now....when I was growing up it was always. alwasy Mr. and Mrs. so and so....never called an aduly by first name. Kids call me by my name now and my kids do the same to other adults. I think it is a generation thing. Our parents were much more formal about everyting than we are today. Not sure if it is a good thing or a bad thing

To this day, I still call all men I don't know "sir" ... whether they're the president of the US or a garbage man.

It was just something I was taught and stuck with me.

These days, it seems like some people get offended when you call them "sir" or "miss."

Yes, my nephews and niece call me Aunt. I think it is nice and puts enphasis on the special relationship. It is also a respect thing. just how I was raised.

all my nephews call me uncle Damian except one who has learning disabilities and he calls me the strong guy

as soon as he see's me,"Hey the strong guy is here" then my other little nephew who's 3 years younger always tells him, his name is uncle Damian stupid! I know it's mean but it's hard not laugh

he'll then call me uncle Damian the rest of the day

by the way I never called my aunts or uncle by aunt or uncle...always their first name

They just call me uncle. No John after it. The only one I never called uncle is my mom's younger brother. He always felt more like an older brother to me.

They all call me uncle with the exception of my brother's step children. They were a bit older when he married and they call my brother by his first name and I'm not blood related to them so it doesn't bother me anymore.

I always have called my aunts and uncles with aunt or uncle so and so and even call some really older first cousins of mine (I do have first cousins in their 60's) Cousin (first name). I have one uncle who I am really close to who once told me I didn't need to call him uncle, just call him by his first name.

The other strange one is childhood friends' parents. I have known them ever since I was just a little kid and always addressed them as Mr. or Mrs. and still do. My best friend's father told me a few years ago to call him by his first name....he told me it was his preference and made the Mr. thing feel to formal for him especially since I'm 40. I honored his wishes but I still feel strange not addressing him as Mr. _____.

                            Same exact story, here

                            Also,
A few years ago I seen my 4th grade teacher in a store.
I BS'ed with him a while and he told me to call him Bobby.
                            That was just too freaky

I only have one niece and nephew and they both call me uncle. I still call all my aunts and uncles using that honorific (or whatever you'd call it), it feels weird doing otherwise, although a couple uncles tell me just to call them by their name but I can't. It's just too ingrained.
