I was sitting at my computer and my sister-in-law walked in and said a plane had hit the World Trade Center. I went online to read the news, and thought about how horrible it was and how many lives must have been lost. Then she came back later and said, "Another plane hit the other building." At that moment, I knew it was no accident and something horrible was happening. I thought about all my family and wondered if life would ever be the same. It hasn't been. They changed us, but they didn't defeat us.

I thank God for the men and women who fight for this country and allow me to sit at a computer and think and believe what I want to think and believe. I thank God that complete strangers put their lives on the line for me even though I don't deserve it and most will never be recognized or honored for their service. That includes Military, Police Officers, Fire Fighters, and other emergency and protective personnel.

Here's to all the brave men and women who serve this country. Thanks for being real heroes. Thanks for carrying the scars that should be mine.

The only problem with Zeitgeist is it is 80% exploitive, 10% plain falsehood, and 10% misrepresented fact (I guess for flavor).
        It's irresponsible to put something that misleading and dishonest out there... I'll allow Jane Chapman to explain why;

In her book Documentary in Practice: Filmmakers and Production Choices, (*ISBN 978-0745636122 - in case anyone feels like a little light media studies read), Jane Chapman of University of Lincoln points out many fabrications and "ethical abuses in sourcing," wrapping up her thought-out and even handed savaging of this film with the following statement (taken from wiki):

Thus legitimate questions about what happened on 9/11, and about corruption in religious and financial organizations, are all undermined by the film’s determined effort to maximize an emotional response at the expense of reasoned argument.

*Note to mods: the above is intended as discourse on ethical film-making and social responsibility, not the religious or political issues themselves.

What's unfortunate about this is there's really no need for the false mystery and X-files showmanship. The information is readily, easily and freely available, on the internet and at the local library... Even Popular Mechanics put out a top to bottom examination of building integrity, failure, and the physics at work. Maybe a bit of a dry read - but at least it's factual.

        So...

This topic jumped over the line early on. Lemme stay out of the fray regarding conspiracy theory vs. hypersensitivity to conspiracy theory.

What really matters is that we lost lots of innocent people and we should all remember them, regardless of who gets the blame. It's the day on which we'll all remember where we were and what we were doing, and it's the day that the world really did change.

I was watching "The West Wing" late at night here in Oz, the newsbreak came on saying that a plane had hit the tower, turned it over to live news as the second plane hit. I had two friends working at WTC at the time, amazingly they were both holidaying in Europe. Stayed up all night watching, couldn't believe what I was witnessing. The mass murder of 3000 innocent civilians is not something you forget seeing in a hurry.

One thing from the Australian perspective is that as a result of the attack(s) we invoked the ANZUS defence treaty (Militray defence pact between USA/AUS/NZ) for the first time in its 50 year history, ensuring Australia quickly joined the military effort in the Middle East. I wonder if those who drafted the Treaty expected the first invocation to be from Aus & New Zealand after an attack on the US. Our Prime Minister at the time (Howard) was in Washington that day too, and was due to address Congress when the plane hit the Pentagon.

Thoughts with all the families today.

I lost my tennis doubles partner for 4 years and good friend from High School that day.

He worked for Cantor Fitzgerald. The company that lost all of its employees except for the one partner who was taking his young child to daycare that morning. I am sure you remember the story.

I was told they found his body and could identify him only from his ID in his wallet which was miraculously still on him.

I found out of his death from my mother. She called me at my office on 9/13 around 5:30 PM and told me he had been working in WTC and was missing. I hung up the phone and called my friend Jim (and Bill's best friend) in Atlanta and asked him if it was true. He confirmed everything my mother said.

Hanging up with Jim I collapsed in a ball under my desk, sobbing uncontrollably. Some of my co-workers who were working late heard me and came into my office to see what was the matter. Thank goodness for them and their compassion. I was an absolute mess.

My friend's name was Bill Tselepis. A native of Berwyn, Ill. (a Chicago suburb), son, brother, friend, husband, father and father-to-be. His wife Mary was 8 months along with their soon-to-be-son William. He never got to see his son. And for that I am most sad.

Bill was a good man. He did not deserve to die that way.

                RIP William Tselepis

I was at work and had just come back from disposing of some bio-hazzard, when one of my co-workers said a plane had just the Twin Towers. We both figured it was a little prop plane. I brought out some more bio-hazzard and when I came back he said another plane had hit the towers, and that they were full sized passenger planes.

Work slowly came to a halt, and everyone started to huddle around the radio and listened to the horrible reports. They let us all go early.

I went home to the beach front where I could see the skyline, and it was disturbingly eerie how the towers were no longer there, but were replaced by towers of smoke that rose up high above the height of the towers, and then at the top of the smoke it turned right blowing like a perfect right angle.

                  An truly horrible day.

God bless the men and women lost on that day and their families.

                  For the love of Mego's

It's still weird thinking the WTC (as we know it) isn't even there anymore.

Years ago in my grade school days I learned a bomber hit the Empire State Building in the 1940's ... I was kind of fascinated by the story and it gave me a false impression any sort of airplane can't bring down a huge building.

I still remember watching it all unfold live on TV (I was watching it on FOX News) and they were making comments about the building might be unstable.

I brushed it off thinking about the bomber incident.

When they did come down I was pretty surprised.

Not because I thought any conspiracy happened with a "controlled demolition"

It just shocked me skyscraper steel can actually melt outside of a foundry.

Stephen King wrote a nice short story called "The Things They Left Behind" about the events of that day and the effects they had on 1 person,a great read if anyone is intrested.

Well that goes to show you I should have said "Maybe a bit of a dry read for some..." - that makes at least two of us.

I was actually scheduled to move to NYC for a new job. I still did, but had to push it back to late January. I would walk from Hell's Kitchen (staying at the apt of that friend who lost the girl he was dating) to the office on 42nd between 9th and 10th everyday. The thing that disturbed me most was, it's funny to say, how polite everything got.
I remember buying some peanuts from a street cart, and hearing a taxi driver honk and scream something impolite out his window. I smiled to myself and said, "There she is... There's my baby." It seemed like the first Cabbie to have been rude in months, and with it I could just about feel NYC starting to breathe again.

It wasn't the steel itself, as such, but more the rivets that held the steel together that failed.

A longtime, childhood friend normally had their office in the Pentagon exactly in the wing which was hit - they'd been moved out just recently and relocated down the hall for renovation. I don't even know how many friends and co-workers he lost when the plane collided. I'm glad he wasn't among them. I was going to say I can't imagine, but that's not true because I have, so it's more accurate to say I'll never fully appreciate what it must have been like for those passengers who forced down their plane before it hit the White House.
                          Those passengers, they didn't fail.
Man wouldn't I love for them to be here so we could buy them all a round.

I was at work when the first plane hit, Extra was in our building at the time and we all watched on the wall of TV's in thier main office, after the second plane hit we were all asked to go home....

I can still remember the cloud of black smoke as the D train went over the bridge back into Brooklyn. So many familes were destroyed that day!
