Gosh we did all sorts of different stuff, it's hard to recall all of it. Some things that stand out...

    - Putting makeup on and lipsynching to KISS records, lol...
    - playing with Star Wars, Shogun Warriors, etc.
    - Watching Monster Rally on chan.44 or Svengoolie
    - watch shows like Fridays, SNL, Friday Night Videos...
    - build living room forts out of cushions, blankets, and t.v. trays
    - take sheets, rope, a flag, and fake swords and guns and pretend my bunk-bed was a Pirate Ship. We'd put a big box fan at the foot of the bed to make pretend the high sea winds were blowing, haha!

When I got into my teens it became more about listening to music all night, talking about girls, prank phone calls, watching music vids and horror movies, etc.

      The phone calls...

Calling butcher shops and asking the person on the phone if they had Pig's Feet. Of course the answer would be yes (never bothered with the Kosher Establishments). The come back would be "Wear shoes and no one will notice..."

      Stupid kids.

Although we had a particular call we'd make pretending to be a Chinese Food restaurant confirming a non-existent delivery order. When the person would say "I didn't make an order." We'd go off on a tirade...

      Evil kids.

        In the mid-late 70's, on the last Friday of every month, I had to go the orthodontist after school, so we'd pick up my cousins at their house on Staten Island, pile them into the Country Squire station wagon and it was off to either one of two places; Arthur Treacher's fish and chips or Beefsteak Charlies. After stuffing ourselves with fried fish and hush puppies or hot dogs washed down with a gallon of birch beer, we'd go back to our house for the weekend;

The first thing that would ensue, was usually us putting on plaid scarves and my moms platform heels, lip syncing to Bay City Roller albums. After the "concert" was over, the mego play would follow. Mostly POTA and Trek, with my cousin Anthony having his Batman and Robin thrown in there for good measure. I think it was 1974 when the POTA TV series was on, and that was mandatory. After the show got canceled, I believe it was Sanford and Son that we watched. There was always something cool and interesting on TV back then; Evel Kneivel stuff, variety shows, etc... Right before bed, it was ice cream sundaes from Zips or Farrels and then we'd all crowd into one bed and zonk out, usually farting and burping on each other. Every now and then, a wrestling match would break out and my dad would come in, acting all tough, trying to get us to calm down, but would only get sucked into the mayhem as it was all of us kids vs him.

On Saturday morning, depending on the time of year, it was either fishing or going to the movies after Land of the Lost or Sigmund, what have you and CEREAL. In the summer or spring, it was usually fishing the waters off Long Island for striped bass, fluke and bluefish, but in the colder months, it was all about the movies.

Saturday night was usually pizza from either Denino's or Brother's. And Sunday was Football or the sport of the season and a huge pasta dinner. Then, on the dreaded Sunday night, almost like the grim reaper himself, my uncle would come for my cousins and the fun would be over. God forbid you actually had to go back to school on Monday--YUCK. Back then, I lived for Friday nights and hated Sundays... No matter what you were doing, or how much fun you were having, the reality of school was waiting for you on Monday. It used to make me literally sick to my stomach. LOL

        Good times for sure.

Every time Sharry or someone posts up one of these threads, I always say to myself, "Nah, I'm not gonna post, it's too depressing thinking about it..." But then I get all excited about reminiscing, and I can't help myself. It's great to think about it and even get it out there for others to read or whatever, but afterward, I'm always so freakin' sad. It usually takes me at least a day or two to recover, because the miserable reality of being a grown up inevitably sets back in and the memory is just that; A memory. So, in essence there's no safe harbor for me in the rough sea of life. LOL! I can't stand being an adult and I can't really even stand thinking about my childhood anymore, because it's too damn depressing knowing that I'll never get even close to being that happy again.

Whatever. Time go eat a half gallon of mint chocolate chip.

I was never allowed to participate in a sleep over and have never participated in one. My childhood is a blur and I don't remember much.

As some other's have mentioned, we generally stayed up reading comic books, playing video games, and got introduced to SNL and Bennie Hill (I wasn't allowed to stay up late and watch those shows at my house).

My friends and I used to stay up late to watch the Three Stooges and Benny Hill on late night TV. Then act like complete morons. lol This was before any of us had video games. Ah to be a child of the 70's.

I was right there with you! In fact, I hated Mondays so much so that I've managed to have a job where I almost never work on Mondays. I just go hang out with a bunch of artists at a comic book shop. It's changed the way Sundays work for me!

Most of my childhood was really awesome! I went through a couple of rough years, but I had a lot of fun years too. My first year of college was amazingly fun. The year that I was 23 was probably the end of ever being THAT happy, so I guess I held out longer than a lot of people. I try to convince myself that I have "Peter Pan Syndrome" but on the inside I know that I have grown up...although you'd never know it from looking around here! [
