Saturday night sleep-overs

OK, it could be Friday night, or anytime you didn't have school the next day.

What was your favorite thing to do when you spent the night at a friend's house, or a friend slept over at your house? Blanket and chair tents w/ all your action figures inside? Spy games w/ walkie talkies in the closet? Swapping comic books and bubble gum cards? Camping out in the backyard? Horror and sci-fi flicks on the late show?

What did you like to do during sleep-overs?

That's easy. Playing with our toys, mostly Megos or Star Wars. Those memories are a big part of why I collect these lines. Watching something superhero or star wars related takes an easy second place.

Lots and lots of the original Legend of Zelda.

That, and GI Joe.

When we were Elementary school age, if we had one, we pretty much went right to bed because we had a daytime of non-stop skateboards, matchbox cars and army men.

When we were older we would have role playing game nights like GURPS or Champions

Oh we played Megos and watched the Friday Fright Night movie on after the 11 o'clock news.

Typical kid stuff except the night my friend & I spent all night decoding\
a music riddle posed by a local station...which resulted in us winning $1000
the following morning.

My cousins and I would stay up late watching horror flicks... prior to that we'd wrestle... play with the big honkin rubber wrestlers ( I think those were LJN's right?)... wrestle some more until my cousin Charlie came up with his own signature move "the nut claw". That sucked.

Playing Atari 2600 games Friday night,watching Saturday Morning cartoons the next day.

I can remember it changing along the way.

Initially, it was playing with toys, reading comics, then watching cartoons the next morning.

I have had a job since 6th Grade. From then on, sleepovers were the occasions I got to go camping in Boy Scouts. That was a lot of pranking on each other all night and being tired as heck the next day.

In High School, I'd get to hang out all night with my buddies in the neighborhood and we'd play video games all night (or have a Risk or Axis and Allies night) or just hang out talking and then everyone would go back home before sun up to crash. I was very fortunate to have a great group of guys in my age range in my neighborhood and we spent a lot of time hanging out. Good times!!!

Well to answer my own question, when I would spend the night at my friend's house, we'd play w/ dolls, we watched TV and played records. But our fave activity was Living room Gymnastics; in particular somersaults and "tornadoes" (rolling). They had great shag wall-to-wall carpeting. We've move the coffee table and roll as fast as we could and roll from one end of the room to the other as straight as possible. We'd do cartwheels, somersaults, backrolls. And then one day I came over and the mom had rearranged the living room furniture for a little girl who likes to do "tornadoes" (me). Too cool!

My friends usually slept at my house for sleepovers. When we were young, we'd play with our action figures and watch TV. When the Atari 2600 hit, there were night's that we'd play video games all night. We'd also try to sneak 'R' rated movies on cable. My parents had one of those cable boxes with a lock on it. You had to type in a code that was intended to prevented kids from watching 'R' rated movies. We figured out how to get past the code. So whenever my father wanted to watch a movie, he'd have to get me to set up the TV for him because he couldn't remember the code! Even as a kid, I found that very ironic.

As a teenager, I slept in the basement with a door to the outside right next to my bed, so people would show up at all hours to hang out. I guess it was kind of the place to go when there wasn't anywhere else to go because you couldn't really just show up at most people's houses at midnight (keep in mind this was WAY before cell phones or email, so if you called someone at midnight, it would be on their house phone and their parents would probably freak out.) We would often wander around the neighborhood in the middle of the night just hanging out and talking. If we were inside, we'd play Nintendo and watch TV (rent a movie or watch MTV) or just hang out and talk about girls...or if there were also teenage girls sleeping over, we'd just try to act as cool as possible - which never worked out very well because we were not at all cool! Hell, if we actually HAD been cool, teenage girls wouldn't have sleep over at my house, but we were such complete dorks that they probably knew it was safe!

Sleepovers when i was little usually consisted of monster movies and playing with Super Joe figures, becaus they had light up vests we would use them after "lights out".

O man I have many cool memories on on sleep overs! Lots of Atari,Nintendo,Sega,Neo Geo,lots of talks about girls. Watch Saturday Night Shocker showing scary movies and all. Playing with GI Joes and Transformers,SuperPowers.Man we had tons of Hustlers,and Play Boy. We as little kids would fill out the information cards and write our neighbors houses addresses three houses away or a vacant house and pick up a free nudy mag and Lots of Laser Tag at night and lots of junk food,fart contest. Shot the heck out of BB guns it was crazy........Great times!!!

The most fun sleepovers in the mid-1960's generally consisted of tenting in the back yards during late Summer. There'd be a transistor radio turned on, and we'd play board games by flashlight (or Dad's utility light via an extension cord), or have a few rounds of "Kick the Can" and then settle in.

Once we were sure that the adults were asleep we'd sneak out and find the nearest apple/plum trees, or garden...
