I saw DLR V-H 10/07/07 and it ROCKED!!!!! I've always liked AC/DC esp Bon Scott, but there is no comparison. Eddie VH kicks A*S as much now as he ever has.

I have an opinion and because I assert my opinion to be true (or at least truthy) I can say that this is not a contest. Since my opinion is true that would me that relativistically speaking if you disagree with me you are wrong.

I have enjoyed some of the disposable pop that Van Halen has put out but AC/DC is without equal in this genre.

Are you saying everything VH has done is "disposable pop"
or that the only thing you've liked from VH is the poppier songs they've done?
"No. No no no no no no. You done got me talkin' politics. I didn't wanna'. Like I said y'all, I'm just happy to be alive. I think I'll scoot over here right by this winda', let this beautiful carriage rock me to sleep, and dream about how lucky I am." - Chris Mannix

That's what he has to be saying.

A lot of Van Halen's music (even the Roth years) sounds almost prefab.
Like is was built in the studio.
              Hard to descibe my meaning.

On the other hand AC/DC always sounds raw.

On DIVER DOWN and 1984 VH started glossing up their sound--
as far as the first 4 Roth albums there was nothing that came off
anything less than raw rock...or in the case of a song like
COULD THIS BE MAGIC, raw acoustic stuff.

On those first four albums, a poppy number like DANCE THE NIGHT AWAY
was a rare bird while once HAGAR stepped in it became common...

and by the time VAN HAGAR split---they were touching back into nastier
and even more prog stuff...but the damage had been done as far as
VAN HAGAR always having that synth pop ghoul looming over their
                reputation.

I think both Van Halen and AC/DC are great at what they do. I don't know that I could say one is better than that other.

As for fast players, check out this video at 7:40 (just let it load and go back to it. You probably won't want to watch the whole thing, but if you want to talk about fast, here's your guy):

                  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BynUZOJc8QI

And by the way, no one mentioned Michael Angelo Batio in the guitar shredders posts. He has custom Dean guitars with two to four necks that he actually uses simultaneously:

                  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rutyA12z3Ok

(Personally, I'd prefer to listen to Van Halen or AC/DC, but if you're going to talk about fast players, I just thought I'd mention those guys.)
Nostalgia just ain’t what it used to be.

I posted the 'speed demon' line, but I was only referring to Vai and Malmsteen. Don't get me wrong, both of them can play ANYTHING, but to me Eddie creates much deeper stuff than they do as a whole. I just don't care to listen to much of Vai or Malmsteen. There are little bits here and there in both of their catalogs, but give me Dave VH any day over any of their stuff.

I agree that the end of Van Hagar was when they were just getting their edge. I think at least some of it had to do with Eddie and Al being at odds with Mike and Sam. Humans Being rocks.

                      the latter.

i actually like VH - but it just doesn't resonate the way AC/DC's stuff does.
