I saw DLR V-H 10/07/07 and it ROCKED!!!!! I've always liked AC/DC esp Bon Scott, but there is no comparison. Eddie VH kicks A*S as much now as he ever has.

I have an opinion and because I assert my opinion to be true (or at least truthy) I can say that this is not a contest. Since my opinion is true that would me that relativistically speaking if you disagree with me you are wrong.
I have enjoyed some of the disposable pop that Van Halen has put out but AC/DC is without equal in this genre.Comment

as far as the first 4 Roth albums there was nothing that came off
anything less than raw rock...or in the case of a song like
COULD THIS BE MAGIC, raw acoustic stuff.
On those first four albums, a poppy number like DANCE THE NIGHT AWAY
was a rare bird while once HAGAR stepped in it became common...
and by the time VAN HAGAR split---they were touching back into nastier
and even more prog stuff...but the damage had been done as far as
VAN HAGAR always having that synth pop ghoul looming over their
reputation."No. No no no no no no. You done got me talkin' politics. I didn't wanna'. Like I said y'all, I'm just happy to be alive. I think I'll scoot over here right by this winda', let this beautiful carriage rock me to sleep, and dream about how lucky I am." - Chris MannixComment

I think both Van Halen and AC/DC are great at what they do. I don't know that I could say one is better than that other.
As for fast players, check out this video at 7:40 (just let it load and go back to it. You probably won't want to watch the whole thing, but if you want to talk about fast, here's your guy):

And by the way, no one mentioned Michael Angelo Batio in the guitar shredders posts. He has custom Dean guitars with two to four necks that he actually uses simultaneously:

(Personally, I'd prefer to listen to Van Halen or AC/DC, but if you're going to talk about fast players, I just thought I'd mention those guys.)Nostalgia just ain’t what it used to be.Comment

You guys that talk about about VAI and VAN HALEN and call them
"speed demons" who are short on melody... you're letting
prejudices and stereotypes get the better of you.
It may sound harsh... but I mean that with respect....
For your consideration:

I agree that the end of Van Hagar was when they were just getting their edge. I think at least some of it had to do with Eddie and Al being at odds with Mike and Sam. Humans Being rocks.Comment
