    I say Van Halen.
Both of them are definitely speed demons, but I'd take EVH any day. For me, their stuff just doesn't have any soul. It's mostly noise to me, although I did like Vai with DLR.

I love Bon Scott, but my pick is VH w/DLR.

    VH/DLR - 1
    AC/DC/Bon Scott - 2
    AC/DC/Brian Johnson - 3
    VH/Hagar - 4

Unfortunately, of the three still alive Hagar is the only one who can still sing. Too bad half his catalog with VH is crap like 'When it's Love.'

I gotta pick AC/DC no contest.

All that needs to be said is Van hasbeen with wolfgang!!!
Enough said, eddie is a gonzo a huge waste of talent I put him in the same category as Axle rose.

      Ac/Dc wins no contest.

Man...tough choice...I have them both dead even.

Sometimes I love Van Halen more...and sometimes I love AC/DC more.

        A draw...

          Agreed.

Speed demons are fine...but a virtuoso is not just about speed...other factors have to be taken into consideration...like soul, melody, uniqueness.

Take Queen's Brian May for example...he's not exactly a speed demon...but he has one of the most distinct and unique guitar sounds in rock...and top that with his songwriting prowess...and presto...my favorite rock guitarist of all times.

I could NEVER even think about which band I like more....I still have ALL of my AC/DC, Van Halen, Rush, Queen, Sabbath, Zeppelin, Judas Priest, Maiden, etc albums on vinyl, and STILL play them every now and then... It was never about which one was better than the others for me..... but of course when I was younger we ALWAYS had these discussions! I WILL say that, as a guitarist, I have a MUCH easier time playing AC/DC stuff than Van Halen's stuff...Eruption is STILL hard for me.... but its harder to get Angus's tone than it is to get Eddy's...."Crazy Train" is actually not that difficult to play, except the lead towards the end of the song, and thats really only difficult to play it at Randy's speed.... and Randy is one of my favorite guitarists ever, if I could have one.... For me, after playing guitar for about 20 years, the REALLY difficult stuff to play, that has technical prowess and wonderful melory is a lot of the "finger pickin" or "rag-time" stuff....

I'd go with DLR Van Halen, as much as I like AC/DC.

Wow, for a minute there I thought I wrote this post and forgot about writing it! Sounds like we were on the same page with musical tastes back in the day.

Right back at ya! I just popped in R30 on Blu-ray last night and was in music heaven. Can't wait to see them live at the end of the month.

Funny I thought of Malmstein and Joe Satriani

Eddie was the pioneer of the wild solo but lots of guys since do it very very well and some argue better or faster. So in that respiect VH will always be iconic but they all have swelled heads (Michael Anthony got punted for Eddie's kid if that was me after being a band for 30 plus years I would go postal on em), never mine the Gary Cherone era

ACDC is solid they just keep on rocking. Bon's death changed the sound but not the vibe. They have stayed together and just keep putting out hits.

back then I bought ACDC and made boot tapes of VH so I will say ACDC

If both shows were coming to my town on the same night, both bands had their original members, and I could only buy ONE ticket...

                              Van Halen hands down.

You guys that talk about about VAI and VAN HALEN and call them
"speed demons" who are short on melody... you're letting
prejudices and stereotypes get the better of you.
It may sound harsh... but I mean that with respect....
