New Terminator movie for 2009

Arnie is the only Terminator as far as I am concerned...but shouldn't he be a little too busy, he is a governor now isn't he?

I always thought the reuse of the Arnold in t2 and 3 was a copout for marketing. If terminators are infiltrators how effective could they be if there are so many with the same face.

I kind of liked t2 but basically you have to ignore contuniuty for 2 or 3 to work at all. Really why would skynet send an obsolete version to 1984. It is a computer is would have sent the best version for it's first try. I honestly hope this new version focuses on the future war. It is by far more interesting adn allows us to avoid any more paradoxes by trying to fit another Today one in. They can cast any number of musclebound people to be terminators plus losts of CG endosceletons (like the old T2 video game). That said unless the rigth script is written Stan winstons special effects can't save it.

I think the biggest problem with a sequel is that they've already covered pretty much everything you need to for the continuity. Anything else would be ad-hoc.

I loved the first one, but the other two bothered me. So... the Arnie-1000 is sent back as a last ditch effort, and the humans send someone back to stop it.... BUT Skynet sent ANOTHER one back... as a second last ditch effort maybe?.... and the humans sent a refurbished Arnie-1000 back as yet ANOTHER last ditch effort.... So Skynet sent a cyber-model (is THAT what a "supermodel" is?) back... Er... How long did it take for Skynet to DIE?!?!?!

And why make 'em so NOTICEABLE? A bodybuilder and a hot chick? Howzabout an old guy and a German Shepperd?

I always felt they should have done a film about the war in the future but they kept going back to another T-800 Ahnuld type and a time travel story. Thye always said they couldn't afford to do the war story and the effects would kill the budget yet they always go back and pay Ahnuld more money to be in the next film-until now.

So many things....

Firstly, the reason the series is continuing on is because
people pay to see it----George Carlin says "Don't blame the politicians. Blame
the public."---this, regarding political bull and the same applies here---that is---if you
think Terminator sequels are bull.

As far as the "inconsistencies" and "unrealistic" things regarding the Terminator plot
presented in this thread, well, half of them were answered in the movies...and the other
half...well, this started out as a movie in and of itself that was far-fetched as it was
---the fact that sequels were added on---- that compounded an already
mounting set of weird circumstances The movie makers dealt with it best they could.
I personally enjoyed both sequels anyways

The reason that they paid Arnie big bucks in the past instead of investing in
post-apocolypse war FX was because Arnie's paycheck had been cheaper to pay
--- up until this point--
--and Arnie might even make computer generated cameos without even showing up
on set anyways at this point, being that computer FX are so advanced at this point

Fans have been curious about the Terminator's version of the future for
a long time----now Hollywood is milking that----big surprise

Now...
If people don't go see the next one----there won't be a Terminator 5---

There is one thing any further Terminator films after T2, including T3, did not and will not have, James Cameron. People seem to overlook the importance of a great director, of which there are very few. The reason all the Aliens films after the second are sub-par is the director. We had Ridley Scott, then Cameron, then all bad films.

This is the same reason any Star Wars film after ROTJ will be sub-par, no Harrison Ford. Entertainig movies, yes. But they will never measure up without him.

That's generally true, but in the case of the Alien franchise, the blame rests squarely on the incompetence of the screenwriters and the meddling of Fox executives. Alien 3 was helmed by David Fincher, who went on to make Fight Club, Panic Room and Zodiac, among others -- hardly a list of sub-par or uninspired movies. Alien Resurrection was made by J-P Jeunet, who wrote and directed Delicatessen, Amelie, and A Very Long Engagement -- all superb films with style and characterization to spare.

The stories behind the makings of Alien3 and AR are tales of creative frustration and unending production woes. Good directors do sometimes make bad films; after all, James Cameron directed Pirhana 2, and we all know what a brilliant tour-de-force that one is.

Thats hilarious.Cameron is okay but he is not the greatest by any means and this is proof for sure.

I'm not going to disagree. I've had friends tell me about meddling execs and some of the slack writers out there... but I think OTHER things can affect how successful a film is. (No matter how you wish to define "success.")

When the first Terminator came out it was different. That sort of story hadn't been done for about 30 years; so a lot of the audience wouldn't remember them, or had never seen anything like that. (We didn't get the old Outer Limits here when I was a kid.) But nowadays even if you wrote the most brilliant film, with the greatest special effects ever, and fantastic acting, and truly inspired directing; most folks would probably go "hey, that's like "The Matrix!" So you're not gonna recapture "the magic" of the first film. (Not for a few more decades anyhoo.)

A lot of that was covered back in the 80's comic series. (From NOW comics.) I know there was a fair bit if input from the studio; but I can't say how much a bunch of sticklers they were about it.
