TV series that should be left alone...

Sorry for the following rant...but WB should basically just give up as a TV network. In the fall there will be a new series called "Nikita"...it's a new take on the La Femme Nikita series that starred Peta Wilson. I was reading the Wikipedia page and it's a bit confusing...It's Nikita after the last series but this time she's trying to take down "Section One". Problem is they have a whole new "Younger" cast playing the same characters from the USA series from 10 + years ago. Just sad. The least they could have done is either bring Peta back as Nikita...or better yet bring her back in another role. And McG needs to go back to school on how to direct or make a movie/tv show. Just pathetic. Sorry, but La Femme was such a great show and to see this crap just ticks me off.

Going by that logic though, they shouldn't have made the series since it was based on a film of the same title. But I understand, just playing devils advocate. Now we are getting remakes of remakes. There are no original ideas in Hollywood anymore.

yeah ..., I dunno, with No more 24 ,.. I might be looking for something with some Action , and with a Hot chick in the mix, this might be made for me.

Well, I'm completely against the idea of Hawaii 5-0 being remade.

Here's a thought Hollywood execs; Pull your head out from behind your I-Phones or whatever electronic devices have you stupified, and COME UP W/ SOME ORIGINAL IDEAS!!

Funny thing about 24...I think it's the same writer/driector Joel Surnow as La Femme. In fact some of the sets look like they were taken right from La Femme.

This new series looks like La Femme "Ultralight".

As for the La Femme series being a copy of the movie...it's definitely THE character...but the TV series was a lot darker. Surnows knowledge of Black Ops helped the series. IMO, the only series that came close to La Femme is Alias with Jennifer Garner.

If I remember correctly La Femme was the first series to be brought back after being cancelled. It was only an eight episode last season...but it was a perfect way of wrapping the show. I hate when shows finish and you say "***??!!??"

I think it's a longer list of revivals that tanked as opposed to ones that succeeded.

                Fail:
                Dark Shadows
                Lost in Space(movie)
                Dukes of Hazzard(movie)
                Night Stalker
                Mission Impossible (TV revival)
Dragnet (both as a Movie & TV show with Ed O' Neil)
                Beverly Hillbillies(movie)
                Fat Albert (movie)
                Rocky & Bullwinkle(movie)
                A-Team(movie)
                Get Smart(movie)
                My Favorite Martian (movie)
                Bewitched(movie)
                Munsters Today
                Josie & the Pussycats (movie)
                Mod Squad(movie)
                The New Monkees
                Fantasy Island
                The Avengers(movie)
                The Honeymooners (movie)
                Miami Vice (movie)
                Maverick(movie)
                Mchales Navy(movie)
                Wild Wild West (movie)
                V
                The Prisoner
                Inspector Gadget(movie)
                I-Spy(movie)
                Starsky & Hutch(movie)
                Knight Rider
                Bionic Woman
                Reno-911(movie)
                X-Files(movie)
                Land of the Lost(movie)

                Success:
                Doctor Who
                The Fugitive (movie)
                The Addams Family(movie)
                Mission Impossible (movie)
                Charlies Angels(movie)

                    SHHHHH!!!!! They'll hear you....

Actually; a few shows I think should be left alone, and are surprised there hasn't been a remake:

                    -Max Headroom
                    -Sledge Hammer
                    -Adam-12

                      The Hollywood remake/revival...

It has nothing to do with "lack of creativity" and funnily enough it doesn't
even have to do with "money" or "profit" or "success" in the traditional sense.

It has to do with name recognition for a "cash grab" scenario. That's about it.
Any "bigger success" is like icing on an otherwise "tax write off" cake.

I never want to see a reimagined Emergency not only would they become action driven drivel instead of character driven stories with a resuce or fire as the highlight, they'd have to tweak the characters problaby to give some romantic over tones whether a love triangle with a 3rd party or a coupleing between the Gage and DeSoto analogs (who would probably be a mixed sex and mixed race pairing for PC reasons - see BSG)

                          Especially the hospital staff.

The character of Dr Brackett is basically Joe Friday in a lab coat --- Today that kind of character would be played as a comedy.

                            I agree.

Marketing is the key factor - not creativity. There are more original scripts in Hollywood right now then there's ever been.

Movies are really expensive to make right now - so investing in an unknown project is just much less viable.

Using a known brand is more enticing for tie-in marketing, merchandise licensing and product placement too. Sometimes you see box office receipts where a "flop" looks like it lost money or broke even based on production cost - but what you have to remember is that the marketing strategies may have already paid for a huge chunk of the production budget. So in that senses there's a much bigger risk with unknown properties.
