Thats how magic works folksThe whole point of magic tricks is to misdirect you to focus on something else while the obvious is happening right in front of you

I saw this one show where a magician made a whole bunch of ducks disappear on stage. And yeah I watched it on TV and saw the ducks disappear. But then they reviealed dont watch the magician watch to his right and sure enough an assistant came and hearded the ducks off stage.

Everyone in the audience missed this... heck everyone who watched in on TV pretty much missed it. It makes you wonder.

Sandman - I see your point - I think that's totally true. It would be cool if the same effect could be shown with something less subtle. I still think it's good for the percentage of people who think "seeing is believing" in a very literal way as a quick little illustration of how that's not true.

In LadyZod's example I think the people who showed the clip missed the point. I don't think the idea is to show you this so you can think "okay, I won't occupy my brain by focusing on a single task again now". I think the idea is just to show an inherent weakness of the human mind - I don't think we can alter our minds to correct it.

On a personal note, the assumption or flat out misrepresentation of the efficiency of multitasking in corporate culture drives me crazy. Through our whole lives and especially in school we're trained for concentration on single tasks, and most studies show that conducting more than one task at a time creates more wasted time and more errors. But for whatever reason, that buzzword of "multitasking" has taken hold - and now every resume needs to pay lip-service because if "multitasking" isn't listed under your 'skills' you won't find work.

Sigh - corporate culture is so insane. Despite the extra struggles I really am glad that I work for myself now.
