Professor, instructor, it doesn't matter. The woman is a TEACHER of college students, and can't answer simple question about the 4th of July. Pathetic.

Are you THAT self-loathing that you'd insult your own country as a result
of your take on a TONIGHT SHOW comedy bit?

Anyways...one thing I know for sure is that there are people in other
countries as misinformed about their own country as the
        peeps in that LENO clip.

I've attended both universities and junior college...and let me tell you...sometimes the junior college instructors are actually better teachers than some of the overrated professors at universities.

Oh, I agree, believe me. I was just pointing out Jay's gaff.. which lead to the earlier incorrect title being used as well.

Professors have earned the title, as have instructors I suppose.

            regards,

Ah.. but a cook is not a Chef, nor is someone artistic an Artist.

A "chef" is an official title either gained from certification or, at least
a more focused set of classifications--- while "artist" is not as far as I know.

One of my good friends from way back (who is now a PhD) used to teach Junior High History.

Any time his Students would ask, "Coach Craig, why do we need to know this stuff?", his patent answer would be, "So you don't look like an idiot on The Tonight Show.".

                  They seemed to get that.

Actually that joke is pretty insightfully on the money AFAIC...I don't
have huge expectations for people when it comes to "basic historical facts"---
other stuff like "being a good person", yeah I'm concerned,
but not knowing stuff about our country isn't gonna bother me.

True, But a cook may be a chef and an artistic person may be an artist.

I wouldn't get too upset about it. People sometimes do get brain-farts...

I'd be willing to bet that Leno probably interviewed dozens of people before he got the wrong answers he was looking for.

A Canadian comedian did the same thing a few years back. In order to get laughs he only kept the wrong answers. He's a fast talker, and intentionally confuses. Watch him when he talks about "Jean Poutine" Canada's supposed Prime Minister.

The little boy corrects him at the end...

                              Here's the full television special...
