    I've been to Montreal and really enjoyed it. (I've also been to Ottawa but it was blizzardy at the time, so didn't get to see much of it!) I don't know enough about Canada to know if I'd want to live there or not, but I can say that Montreal is a beautiful city and the majority of the people I ran into there were friendly.

      I don't know if it is true or not but have heard that the mounty style hats are used because they have a more authoritative look than your typical flat brimmed police hat. Also, it also makes you look much taller than you really are and gives more of an intimidation factor.

      Personally, I have only been to Toronto and some surrounding cities. If felt very much like a U.S. city to me...the one noticeable difference were that all the road signs were written in English and French and had the Queen's crown on them.

        I loved my visit to Canada.Over the past few years I've thought quite a bit about where to move my family when the U.S. splits in two.Canada is looking better all the time.

          Hmm..not many road signs around Toronto have English/French - but highway signs do have crowns on them - the main highways in Ontario are called Kings Highways - though, not referred to that way in normal conversation.

            When the U.S. splits into two? You talking about red/blue states?

                I'm talking about the bitter, hate-full divide that I'm afraid is getting worse all the time.

                  Worst thing that ever happened to me on a trip to Canada was when I got back home I found I forgot to unload my Canadian money while still there ....

                  In the US if you pull out Canadian money people run away from you as if your were a leper

                    Okay people lets get this straightened out once and for all for all you Americans out there that think we live in igloos and our cops are all red jacket wearing cowboys.... LOL

                    This is the RCMP regular duty uniform;

                    That is what they wear on any normal day to bust yer arse on the streets.

                    This one is the typical Mountie(red serge) wear for special occasions and dress functions political assignments stuff like that;

                    Now the one difference you will notice with the pictures of our police force they always seem to be smiling in pictures.Take a look at any American police officer in their pictures they all look p'oed!!! LOL

                              Canada is nice.

                              You will find there are a lot of Canadians there though.
