Nah....but, on a related note, it pretty much reflects what I think about
a popularity contest that includes Jesus and Elvis.

As the years go by and the memory of Elvis is farther and farther back in the past I think new generations will have their own Elvis ... Michael Jackson is already well on his way to becoming bigger than Elvis (for this generation)

I grew up with Elvis and The Beatles, and I'd have to say that as I've grown older I've come to appreciate Elvis Presley's talent more and more.

I've picked up the series called "Essential Elvis" and my favourite is Such A Night. I used to be one of those people who made a distinction between the pre and post Army Elvis but this CD pretty much showed me the error of my thinking.

His movies are pretty light weight, but I still like to watch them. I like to think of them as sort of a precursor to Bollywood movies. What can I say? I like song and dance movies...

I am a HUGE Elvis fan!!!! The wife and I have been through Graceland 12 times total with being in Memphis twice. We stayed at the Heartbreak Hotel, and just kept gpoing thru. I have to admit it was real rush touching some of the things in Graceland knowing Elvis had touched them.

Fortunatly they think it is really cool and also love Elvis., gotta get them to Graceland.

The wife took me to the Elvis on tour show in the early 90's, was really cool.

Love his music, love his movies.. Elvis still is the King of Rock and Roll.

For those that don't like his movies, try watching King Kreole, it is a fantastic movie and shows that Elvis really had solid acting chops.

Yeah, Aloha from Hawaii is the best Elvis album PERIOD. I have the live concert on VHS, laserdisc and DVD. I wore the VHS tape out and my laserdisc player is buggy so I hope the DVD lasts!
...Totally changed my thinking on live music as well. Now I much prefer live music from any of my favorite bands/artists. In fact, I think that live music is a true test of a band or artist. If they sound better live, they are a true talent. If they sound much worse live, then they are not (probably because the producer mixed the crap out of their voice because it sucks).

I'm of the mind that it's all about the "songwriting"
(i.e. the writing quality of the songs in the setlist)
combined with the "charisma" or "vibe"
of the live performance rather than the "technicality" of the performance.
(yet, technical stuff does play a part for me. You do hope the singer's voice
isn't totally blown or the guitar player isn't so drunk that he can't find the
strings on his guitar.)

That said I can appreciate that an artist like Elvis sounds beautiful "live"...and, BTW, I'm listening to ALOHA FROM HAWAII for the
first time right this minute.

It's not really a "Battle" for air time as both are fantastic but I have my preference and she has hers.
Either way we have some of the greatest music ever created playing in the house and now our kids have grown up on it.
So the question is,who will our three kids lean towards;ELVIS or the beatles.....Muwahahahaha...Experiment in progress!!!

I should have used the word "experiment" instyead of "battle"
The music indeed is some of the biggest foundation of rock history
you can get from a mere 2 artists.

Funny story about that album. I had a lot of ELVIS records when I was a kid and one day my mom brought home Aloha from Hawaii. At the time I never really liked live albums, I thought the applause was too annoying. When I put the first record on (Aloha is a double record set) I was heart broken when I realized it was live. Then I gave it a chance and listened and I was SPELLBOUND. It quickly became my favorite and none has surpassed it since. Totally changed my thinking on live music as well. Ha! you know that's how I see if an artist or band is really good i want to hear them live....but live raw. As i learned artist can go into a studio and tweak a live performance by fixing the vocals. Elvis in the 70's was hard to get into the studio as he found it boring and would lose focus. That's why so many live recordings exist of him.

Agreed, Something is in the top 10 as well. Great rendition. One of my favs on the Aloha album

That "battle" is the first thing I thought of when I saw this thread.
I too am a big BEATLES fan....PULP FICTION fan too...and in one of
the cut scenes in PF Vincent and Mia have a bit back and forth
regarding "Beatles Man vs. Elvis Man".

Elvis' rendition of Yesterday on tour is one of my top 10 favorite tunes.

Well, all I can say to that is I can privately put you in contact with several of my good friends who hate The Beatles because they love Elvis. They have a 21 year track record of making a pilgrimage to Graceland.

My friend Mark and I get shouted down on occasion when the subject comes up and Mark is an Elvis collector and Historian who happens to be a Beatles collector and Historian. He can tell you anything you want to know about Elvis or The Beatles. Somehow, they dismiss his Beatles penchant.

I understand... I'm not saying Mia is RIGHT for possibly thinking there's
a "right answer" ....more likely she's thinking there's no right/wrong

So, Mia MAY be like your good friends a lot.... or a little.
