If we have 2 minutes of ads, we start them 2 minutes before the scheduled time of the movie. There is one studio that does not allow ads before their movies and I love them for it. It's Disney. Though, I have heard some places still put commercials on theirs.
    Word.
Worked for theatres for a decade or more.

I asked how they justified it and at the time they said technically the commercials play BEFORE the film so youre not paying to see them.

I too worry about the day when they interupt the movie for a " break" and show Wal Mart commerciasl and the sort.

This is why I prefer VHS to DVD sometimes you can skip things .

You are under your own power.

I think the dam burst when Tom Cruise was in Top Gun in 1985. Pepsi had a feeling it would be big and they had a commercial with the pilot pouring a soda like in the film. After that they popped up everywhere.

I don't mind the ads, I just can't time the snack buyin' with the ad runnin' quite yet. Want to eat the popcorn with the movie, not prior to it.
