"Over The Edge", late 70's teen rebellion movie

No, not "Over The Hedge", "Over The Edge", Matt Dillon's and Vincent Spano's first movie, I think.

It's a story about teenagers in a planned community where there is almost no outlets for kids except drugs, vandalism and sex (although, not too much of it happens in this movie).

The end is a bit over the top (as if they had to amp up the destruction to borderline unbelievable levels for the climax) but the rest is a movie that has no real heroes or villains (although I naturally threw in with those rebelling against the "man" back in the day).

Anyone coming of age in the late 70's will see a lot of yourselves in the teenagers, although I am sure we weren't as nihilistic as they were and they had no Megos, which was perhaps one of their problems.

Enjoyed this movie very much. I recommend it. It was Matt's first full length movie.

Oh yea....I've loved this movie for literally decades now. Carl, Cory, Richie, Claude, Doberman and Mark.... A really great teen rebellion movie, with a great soundtrack. Some scenes were truely scary, like when Carl gets beat up by Mark.... If you've ever gotten beaten up, it brings back some scary memories.....and other scenes are very heart felt - Richie's demise and the end scene....I had this VHS through most of the 90's and bought the DVD the day it came out. All of the child actors were no-names at the time, and I always wondered why I never saw any more of Michael Kramer (Carl) or Tom Fergus (Claude), both gave very memorable performances. I agree with you. I saw a lot of myself in "Carl"......but not as nihlistic.....

I had quite the crush on Pamela Ludwig from this flick, I'm glad she's still cute.

Cool to see someone else remembers this great forgotten B-classic. I think lots of us watched it over and over on HBO back in 1980.

Over The Edge was awesome! Felt alot like my teen years. A while back a hard core fan made a documentary type film called " Return to New Granada, I watched it once back in NY, if I can track down the guy down I'll try to get a copy, but we are talking like 6-7 years ago.

I missed this one; Matt Dillion will always be the bully from 'My Bodyguard' to me.

I like it but I wouldn't own it. I got it through netflix and ripped it, encoded and watched. Then deleted.

Over The Edge is one of my top 10 all time favorite movies....there is no other movie that screams 70's teen more than this...a must see and a must own....it doesn't get any better than this.
