Several times. I've seen them while I was in the water as well. Magnificent creatures. I took these photos when I was on a tuna fishing/shark dive charter in 2008 on one of Souhtern California's offshore banks.

I've seen them in open water while freediving, but not on that particular trip the photos are from. Cage diving only. Customers go down into the cage on scuba and look at the white sharks... I've done it too. Pretty cool, but being with them in open water is a different story... Very humbling dives.

Hey Sandy. Ever had any concerns about one of them getting into the cage through the openings? I know that happened briefly to someone a couple of years back.

Yeah, no way. I am one of the great numbers who haven't gone in the ocean in past my ankles since viewing Jaws at the tender age of 10. My grandparents owned a trailer in a nice park in Lewes, Delaware and we would spend much of the summer there. I would usually swim out as far as the lifeguards would allow me. My aunt took my brother and me to see the movie at the, long since gone, little movie theater in Lewes. Nothing like seeing that movie at age 10 in a beach resort town! Haven't been in past my ankles since. I would have to claim that the number one way I would not want to die would be eaten by a shark
