    Living the nostalgic 70's life

Aside from collecting megos, making customs, constantly watching TV shows and movies from the 70's, listening to the music, decorating one's environment with 70's nick nacks and general nostalgia, is there anything else any of you do to keep the 70's alive and present in your lives? I'm always looking for things I can do to enhance the 70's experience in my daily life and make it seem more groovy.

I'd be interested in hearing how you all connect with your childhood and being made aware of things I maybe haven't thought of. Honestly, I feel like I've kinda been in a little rut as of late with my 70's vibe. I just bought the magic garden DVD and a tambourine on ebay... Maybe that will help.

Please feel free to contribute to any thoughts on the subject...

Get a rotary phone, and use it. That would take you back.

Get a Pong home console. Seriously, those things are awesome.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

My friend has a vintage 1973 VW Beetle. We go cruising around in that sometimes and give people the peace sign. It even has one of those plastic waving hands on a suction cup in the window that reads "Draft Beer, Not People"
sigpic "Only an apostate would flee to the Forbidden Zone"

Get a computer with a cassette drive. And some of the old games that took half an hour to load from both sides of the cassettes.

              Get an 8-track player

Many 8-track tapes are super cheap today

You know I had to post on this, right Sandy?

Sometimes it's not only what you watch, but the WAY you watch it. For instance:

1)After school cartoons: If I have occasion to get off work early, or this week, I'm on vacation, so at 3pm, it's after-school cartoon time. Thanks to YouTube, (and some stuff I have on tape) I can watch my faves from WNEW back in the day. Sometimes interjected w/ some good toy and snack ads from the period. I sometimes even do The 4:30 Movie.

                2) Saturday morning TV: Even if I buy a tape or see something on YouTube during the week from my Satuday morning past, I'll wait til Saturday morning to watch it. I'll veg for about 3 hours watching the ole faves, again, sprinkling in toy and food ads, and some Schoolhouse Rock for good measure.

                3) Friday night in the 70s: I'll get a Totinos Cheese pizza ('cos it's like the Jenos Pizza snacks from back then)and I'll go back and forth between YouTube, Hulu and my vids and watch Brady Bunch, Partridge Family, Nanny & The Professor, The Odd Couple and Room 222 and Love American Style if I can find them.

                4) Saturday night, Chiller Theatre: I'll play the Chiller intro, and watch some B horror or Sci-Fi flick while eating ice-cream.

Try to enhance your viewing pleasure w/ certain foods. Pop Tarts, Totinos Pizza, sugar coated cereal, a Hostess snack or in my case, homemade Koogle (chocolate syrup mixed in peanut butter!)

I also have fun PJs. (right now, I have on my DC Superfriends pair) Sometimes what you wear can enhance an experience.

Break out the Megos when you watch some of your faves. I love pulling out Starsky and Hutch or POTA figs when I watch those.

Yeah, I know, I'M NUTS! But hey, I'm not into drugs, smoking or drinking, so I love letting my inner child come out and play!

I live in my brother's house, but someday, when I move, I wanna totally trick out my house 70s style. Paneling, shag carperting, and the ultimate big screen TV, a console set.

Too bad we are all spread across the country (and world, for that matter) because wouldn't it be fun to plan a 70's night get-together like once a month at different member's homes and do like Sharry does? Have 70's shows recorded and ready to play, play 70's board games, have 70's trivia contests for small trinkets/prizes, etc.
