The effects team WETA Digital, who wowed moviegoers with their work on "Avatar," will reportedly use photo-realistic apes and not actors in costumes for the movie.
That ruined it right there.
I don't even need to read any further

I liked Lancelot Link: Secret Chimp
To me, it's not so much that it may or may not suck because I want to see another apes film as well. My problem is (and I'm sure others have the same feelings) I want to see a continuation of the original apes movies rather than a remake, re-imagining or anything along those lines. And I don't want too much tampering with the special effects, either. Stay as close as possible to the original while still using the latest and greatest technologies to make the original effects even better. The apes need to be recognizable if they want to tie it in with the old stuff.

I love the originals, but they never did make any sense continuity wise...none at all. A new film series, if done right would fix that.
I have heard the film tries to dove tail into the first apes movie. There is mention of Taylor and his crews historic mission running throughout the film. Plus Dodge has a relative, who is a bad guy in the film.Dodge actually hoses Caesar down in a scene that recalls the 'It's a madhouse...A MADHOUSE!' scene in Planet of the Apes. There are also other little cues to the original film....an orangutan named Maurice, and a chimpanzee named Cornelia.
As for the monkeys being CGI, as mentioned before, its because the majority of apes in this film are going to look like actual apes. They havent evolved into the monkeys from the film series yet. Kinda hard to find actors who are chimpanzee sized. I heard Ceasar will be makeup, and will look like John chambers makeup. I assume the sequel will also make more use of made up actors, while I would think they will still use CGI, its cheaper and easier than making up 100s of extras (plus you wont have those lame halloween mask looking apes from the crowd scenes like the original had.
This may stink on ice, but I'm hoping they stick close to the source material, and the look and feel of the better Apes films. If they do that, it may revive a great franchise!
