I didn't enjoy watching "The Ladykillers" - it just didn't work for me. It's hard to pinpoint exactly why. I guess Hanks' performance is something that you either think is funny, or you don't.

Maybe you should try again. One of Toronto's biggest movie reviewers, a HUGE Coen Bros. fan, came back from Cannes Film Festival and panned it - 1 out of 5 stars. He couldn't understand why they made it, let alone followed up their most successful film (at that time) "Fargo" with it.

When it got theatrically released he was urged by friends to see it again - he did and wrote a new review. This time he gave it a 5 out of 5.

Personally, I think its more to the point that either you BUY Hanks'
performance or you don't. Its been a while, but I remember thinking Hanks
and the movie were just okay. That was a remake too BTW.

Yeah - I keep meaning to check out the original one of these days.

Well, when I watched The Big Lebowski...I may have been drunk, and just not in the mood for it. Maybe I'll give it another chance some day.

I've watched The Big Lebowski so many times, I've lost count. It's one of my all time faves. Fargo, The Man Who Wasn't There and No Country For Old Men are pretty close too. I was just going to type that they haven't made a dud, but I just remembered the Ladykillers remake.

I think "Intolerable Cruelty" was miss too - but they can direct their next 3 movies with their eyes shut and I'll still think they're amazing.

Even their misses are well made.

The biggest misfire of all. Coen Brother's scripted, Sam Raimi directed, and it was originally supposed to star Bruce Campbell who got relegated to supporting player.

It's been a long time since I saw it originally, and I was so excited to discover it, but it was pretty unwatchable. A sophomore slump for both the Coens and Raimi.

Hard to believe the guys who did Crimewave could go on to make this one...
