I already have Stars Wars and The Indiana Jones trilogy on DVD and even though the Bluray might be slightly better picture and sound, i would not buy them unless there was really something cool in the bonus features or maybe some more scenes put back in.

      But I have a Blu-Ray player...not an HD Player.

Sorry, I was just thinking out loud. But being "format neutral" (as they called it during the HD format war) has it's advantages.

I just bought a playstation 3 and thought, the WORST i will get out of it is a playstation3...I got a certificate with It for 5 free blu-Rays, AND a remote! 2what movies did I get?

              Stir of Echoes
              Superman:the Movie
              The Patriot
              Species
Spider man 3 (Was a pack in)so technically 6 movies
              Goodfellas

Blu-rays are now at the price standard dvd's were almost 2 years ago, some good cheapies (Phantom,Monster Squad,Near Dark,Cujo and more) are only $8, so-so titles are like $15-20 including new releases on sale. and Top tier (Disney) are about $30. you DO get so much more now too, the picture is dazzling, but the AUDIO SHINES!!! go rent "A Clockwork Orange or 2001, you will notice the difference immediatley! I just got "Gone With the Wind" for $17, and it is beautiful. I love older films like the wild bunch, and patton, both of which i nabbed on sale for $11! standard dvd is on the way out within the next 5 years. The studios are starting to release Blu ray only titles...Like the Matrix was on DVD not VHS unless you rented it. Times are changing yet again, so the 5 dollars extra is a bit of a pinch, BUT you know where that $5 went when you watch the film. I have yet to buy many comidies though, because there is no way to make it funnier on blu ray, but the action movies like Dark Knight, and Speed racer are worth the extra dough. So I will NOT be upgrading my collection of *GASP* 2000+ movies, just the ones that deserve it.

Does Clockwork Orange look good on blu ray?

I recently saw a supposed HD broadcast of CO on cable and it seemed little better than an unconverted DVD.

Don't go by what stuff looks like on HD broadcast TV and think the Blu-ray will look similar. Blu-ray looks much better in most cases. The most dramatic difference I have seen was the first season of The Dollhouse. Blu-ray was FAR superior to the TV version. I had a few episodes on my DVR and was able to compare.

It's not anywhere near as dramatic an improvement over standard DVD compared to some of Kubrick's other films (for example, 2001, The Shining) but the Blu-ray and HD DVD are the best the film has ever looked, it is a slight improvement. Most scenes are still kind of soft though, but this may be due to how it was shot, so I don't know if it could ever be improved much more than it is now. IMO it's still worth picking up, just don't expect to be blown away by the picture quality.

The same problem exists for Star Trek: The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine and Voyager. They only exist in standard definition broadcast video. To make HD versions of these shows, you need to hope that they kept the original film elements shot on the set and redo the effects.

About what I would want on blu ray, many have covered some titles I want (Star Wars, Indiana Jones, etc)

I'd love to see Star Trek animated on blu ray and I especially love for movies that don't even have a decent DVD release to be put on blu ray (or at least anamorphic 16:9 DVD) like:

                      True Lies
                      Colossus:The Forbin Project
                      The Abyss

                      There is also:

                      Matinee
Cat People (1982, was released on HD-DVD, but not yet on blu ray)
                      The Sound Of Music
                      Pillow Talk
                      Parent Trap
                      JAWS
1941 (both theatrical and extended versions)

In general, I love any of the technicolor movies of old to come out, they really worked with color back then.

The Exorcist is coming in October, King Kong original is on the way and so is Forbidden Planet.
I dont think 1941 which I consider one of Steven Spielbers best films will ever come out in Blu-ray. the 1999 Special Edition DVD already went out of print last year so if you have it hang on it

Im waiting for Jeepers Creepers 1 and 2. There was a release date a few years ago and somehow it just went away. Also would like to see the zombie movies like Return of the Living Dead show up on blu ray.

I bought mine 3.5 years ago, paid double what they now cost, and got no free movies. The downside of being an early adopter I guess.

From an audio standpoint it is much better, it no longer sounds like alex is mumbling, it really brings the story out of the film. The hd BROADCASTING THING IS A SHAM, BECAUSE THEY COMPRESS IT. grab a copy of LOST season 3-5 and just look at the difference, beautiful on hdtv, MIND-BLOWING on blu-ray.

but yours plays ps2 games, mine does not. Sony just keeps taking away features rather than adding them. Now they took the alternate Operating system away...
