If it would've been the other way around everyone would be calling the guy a moron for going after a shoplifter in the first place

they would be saying, Man could you believe the idiot wasted his life going after a guy for $6 worth of ****,
Same here, I'm not risking my life, or even risk getting into trouble, over something that isn't mine or belongs to a loved one. Bank tellers are told to hand over the money and not be heroes, I'm sure that clerk's boss told him the same thing, but the guy wanted to be a hero and now it backfired on him. And this is exactly why they tell those guys not to interfere

This thread has gone on real long....and I thought I must've
addressed everything I just said in this post already earlier in the thread,
but I thought I'd jump right back in and "catch up".
Not ONLY did I say: "I THOUGHT" in regard to what I said about
the subject matter (as opposed to "I SAID"), I also used the phrase
"CATCH UP" in that post too....

...as in: I thought I had said it all, but then I returned to catch up.

Sorry if I was unclear...and sorry to say that it feels like you're
putting words in my mouth....if that wasn't your intention, I apologize.

And now this...another bungled raid...I can see why I stopped watching the news :(

Family: 7-year-old shot by police was asleep
            (AP) – 4 hours ago

DETROIT — Seven-year-old Aiyana Jones was asleep on the living room sofa in her family's apartment when Detroit police searching for a homicide suspect burst in and an officer's gun went off, fatally striking the girl in the neck, family members say.

Her father, 25-year-old Charles Jones, told The Detroit News he had just gone to bed early Sunday after covering his daughter with her favorite Disney princess blanket when he heard a flash grenade followed by a gunshot. When he rushed into the living room, he said, police forced him to lie on the ground, with his face in his daughter's blood.

Average jail time for murder is 25 years to life. Try doing a small bid like 6 months then try to picture 25 years. For a crime that could have been a crime of passion or a botched robbery yeah maybe that person should have some sort of chance at a life and forgiveness. But make no mistake 25 years is not a slap on the wrist.

And this should please those anti corporal punishment people who think you are going to go around executing everyone accused of murder willy nilly.

The family could still get a really good lawyer (most would do it Pro bono because of the notoriety the trial will bring them) ... and take it to civil court ... Civil courts usually lean towards the victims so they'd probably win -- and CVS has deep pockets.

The family also told the paper that while Kyser has had his share of "ups and downs" and has spent time in prison for drug offenses, his death was unjustified. They plan on suing the CVS chain in civil court.
And that's why chain stores tell their employees not to interfere with petty stuff like this. Cause $5 worth of crayons and toothpaste is nothing compared to a lawsuit. Even if they win they will have lost. Lawyers, bad publicity, this is gonna cost them.
The Sun-Times also spoke to two witnesses whose homes back onto the alley where the incident took place who say that an off-duty police officer was involved. They claim the woman told Kyser she was an officer, drew her weapon, and told him to stop fighting the CVS employees' attempts to restrain him. She then reportedly went back to her car to make a phone call. Chicago Police spokesman John Mirabelli was quoted as questioning this report, saying that they "have no indication of CPD involvement."
So now there was no cop involved? Sounds more like the cops are trying not to get involved in this mess

So lets see... This guy had a history of drug offenses. Lets assume this was not the first time he resorted to stealing. That is almost always the case.

Well now society doesnt have to worry about what he will do next now do they?

Yeah - or possibly an off duty security guard was mistook for a cop (I was involved in an incident where that happened once.)

It's also VERY possible that all these articles are just incompetently researched and written.

Based on the information from the first two articles I agreed that there should have been an investigation - which, at least, there was. It goes against my instincts to trust all the facts as they had been given though. Some of the important details were skipped and others just don't seem jive 100% to me - so even if everything written was true, this whole event seemed like it was reported in a sloppy way.

You've obviously never been in a CVS. This is about what I expect there.
