How much of your collection is "Scratch and Dent"??

I'm in the process of redoing my displays becasue of the arrival of a few key pieces and I got to thinking..wow alot of my stuff is either repaired, or not working, repro parts.. etc... Sometimes I feel bad about it and sometimes I don't care so long as it displays fine.

So my question to you all is, how much of your collection are Scratch and Dent items? Not major problems, just stuff like say your Batsignal doesn't work, Retrings, etc...Especially the rarer items etc..

And am I the only one who obsesses about it??

It depends,it bothers me for Gi joes and Star Wars, but not so much for the Mego Super Heros,I guess since piecing them together sometimes could be quite expensive

i would say most were pieced together. but as far as scratch and dent about 4 percent maybe. a missing belt here or a missing emblem or a loose arm stuff like that.

I do not like repros or repairs but MINT condition is not a priority of mine. A complete C-7 or C-8 figure is just fine by me--I will not pay a premium for mint toys.

All of my figures are mint in at least c8 boxes or cards, but it wasn't always that way! It's taken ten years of collecting to get to this point, getting better pieces and selling off lesser pieces, so don't feel too bad if yours are less than mint. If that's what you want, you will get there!

                Hmmmm....

MOST of my collections are pretty patchy. Partly due to me being poor; partly due to the relative difficulty of getting some stuff:

-MOST of my Mego figs are assembled. I use a lot of repro parts too; and have even customed up improvements to some. I'm not concerned with authenticity; I want the best representation of each character I can get.

-A lot of my RPG books are patched up. They get used, so I'm not worried about getting mint copies, since they won't stay that way for long. My comics fall into this category too. As long as I can read it I'm happy.

-A lot of my model kits are compilations too; especially the older, rare ones like my Auroras. I have completed kits that contain parts from five different reissues of the kit. (God bless Retroresin.com. And Monstersinmotion.com for their recast of the Giant Insect.)

I wouldn't label mine as "bent and dent". Mine would fall more in with "well played with and well loved."

When I started I was always looking for things I could buy cheap and repair. I've replaced much of that over the years, but still have some of that stuff I pieced together. I always enjoyed the restoration process, and as long as it could be made to look new, I was cool with it. If it was actually broken or beyond repair, I had to replace.

I started out like Dave, buying what I could afford, and hunted down genuine bits. But I never have the heart to sell them...they look fine in my display and these days, I try to only go for complete really nice stuff. I still love my crappy ones though.

I am less particular about My megos than my joes. mostly because Joes have a wider availabilty for most parts. My common megos are all vintage parts(except for batman and supermans symbols) usually c8 plus and loose (all my toys are played with not boxes on a shelf) but if it wasn't for reproductions my speedy would be barefoot, hatless and bowless and my Rc batman wouldn't have a secret identity

I have a Cap Americar with a crack in it at the screws (a very common thing for them) and it bugs me to no end every time I look at it. I'll replace it someday (hopefully) but it looks fine on display with Cap sitting in it and isn't a priority. And my Bat Van could use an upgrade as well, mainly because of some slight play use. But it's all complete so I live with it.

The more I get into it, the more the repro parts here and there bother me. I've passed on figures I wouldn't have just a few years back, due to repro parts. Somethings that I can't ever see being in my price range, like the RM Robin mask, I don't care about, but the rest I plan to replace one day with 100% Mego.

I've also been slowly upgrading my Super Powers collection. When I replace my childhood figures I pass them onto my son.

I'm not one for repro parts in my collection, the same with repro boxes, I only have one.

Figure condition is important, I like c7 or better but rarity can rule that out. Someone left bite marks on my Zorro hat and Jet Jungle has head rubs, it doesn't bug me.

As for packaging condition, I'm pretty easy especially with the rarity of the item, I also like store stickers. Reseals don't bother me either as long as I'm aware of it prior to purchase. I guess I'm easily pleased when it comes to packaging.
