Like T1K, I grew up in the country and had a field car too...75 Dodge Monaco Police Special. big ol' beast that was surprisingly quick . I would have licensed it when I got my drivers license, but it was pretty rough. First road car was a 76 Dodge 1/2 ton with a 360. Tons of go, and I could pass anything but a gas station. Tough old truck though. I jumped it over a railroad track once without any issues...except the exhaust broke off when I landed. Buddy tried it with his Mercury Marquis, and it took us two hours to get the doors open afterwards....Yep, we drove like typical redneck teenagers. I blame the Dukes of Hazzard for the negative influnce on our rural driving habits!!

My '56 Rambler had a weird starter ...
It was automatic and had the gear shifter on the steering column like any other automatic
The weird thing was to start the car you put the key in dash and turn it --- but nothing happens .....
Because, to start the car you must pull the gear shirt stick toward you and that turns the engine overComment

My first car was a 1977 Pinto, and here is a photo of it along with the most recent car I have purchased, my current 1977 Pinto. No, that is not me in the old photo, it's a friend of mine. However, those ARE my parachute pants he is wearing. I loaned them to him for a double date. Yes, all four of us crammed into the Pinto!

I was 18...and my dad gave me his 67 AMC Marlin V8 four speed Batmobile...after graduating from high school...
I wish I could show original pictures...but they are all in photo albums in my mom's house down in Mexico.
Great car...until someone side-swiped me with a truck passing a red light...and damaged the entire engine compartment...was too expensive to repair...and the bloody insurance company only gave me $1500...the car had to be junked.
I was about 22-23 years when that happened...so I got to enjoy the car for about four-five years.
But I was going to hang on to that car...what a bummer...

LOL! My neighbor's had a field car. It was an old white station wagon. One day we decided it needed a paint job. All we had to paint with was lime green house paint and brushes. Just make it complete we painted a large red 43 on each side. Yes, it truly was a thing of beauty.
I even hand stenciled the lettering and logos on the doorsComment
