I think of crappy in these terms - everyone TRIED to make a good and normal movie - things didn't really work out. IMDB ratings might help in some cases for figuring out if a movie is crappy, or just silly, I guess.
For my choices, I can admit the movie isn't very good, but there's something about them that appeal to me. Escape From L.A. has the plot stolen directly from Escape From New York but handled in a really stupid and unrealistic fashion. Sleepaway Camp is a really low budget horror film and the "actors" are terrible. And Kiss Meets the Phantom is just bad from wall to wall.
HOWEVER: Escape From L.A. is fun and Snake Plisskin is the greatest movie character ever created so I'll watch that over and over. Sleepaway Camp has an amazing twist ending and final scene that still disturbs me. And Kiss has good live concert footage and some goofy scenes of Kiss fighting robots, so that's another I put on a couple of times a year.
OK Sharry, please don't get mad at me cause it's all in fun, but I think you are suffering from a case of thread dyslexia here. You have "The Wiz" over in the good movie thread and the entire 50's horror/sci-fi genre over here in this thread???...
Just kidding, I value your opinion as much as anyone's! And you can't get mad at me, cause I am working on your WW episodes this weekend!
Ok, I won't get mad at you...but if I had to narrow it down to one favorite bad movie, I'll say Tarantula.

Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic

No...it might be slow and ponderous...but it's a visual spectacle...and this might shock you...but I think it's the most "realistic" of all the Trek movies.
Thank you.., I've been trying to figure out why I like as much as the best Trek films. That's a pretty good way to explain it, actually.
Visually spectacular, minimal in hammy acting, and the only film to actually, well, 'take you on an exploratory journey', if that makes any sense.. (referencing the 'Directors Cut' here).
Others might have been more entertaining, but TMP's still my favorite.

There's nothing shocking about that IMO.
Some the greatest movie stuff has that odd "real time" feel to it.
One movie that comes to mind is DOG DAY AFTERNOON...ponderous as hell
but a real raw feel to it.
The START of the Polanski/Harrison Ford movie FRANTIC is like that
----and it gets jumpier as it goes....which maybe ST:TMP should have
done
I have to admit --why wouldn't it be cool to see Han Solo, Peter Venkman or
Indiana Jones in a scene like that for once....like as a bonus scene on a
DVD or something...it'd be cool enough just if you were a big fan of the
character.
"No. No no no no no no. You done got me talkin' politics. I didn't wanna'. Like I said y'all, I'm just happy to be alive. I think I'll scoot over here right by this winda', let this beautiful carriage rock me to sleep, and dream about how lucky I am." - Chris Mannix
Also...The first set of Star Wars movies (Episodes 1-3). I know they are crappy, but I still love to watch them with my boys.
I want to make my own edit of the 3---it'd still be about 4 hrs.... it'd be
ROTSITH heavy and I wouldn't cringe as much

A quick glance through my DVDs netted a few nominations. I guess crappy is relative since if I thought the movie was crappy I wouldn't have purchased it. I'm guessing these might fit the bill but of course I really like them:

CutThroat Island with Geena Davis.
Godzilla -the Matthew Broderick one.
Van Helsing
Swamp Thing starring Adrienne Barbeau
Rich
Hmmm, good list actually, but I'll have to go with Evil Dead 3: Army of Darkness
