Are Blu ray discs really delicate ?

Yeah, that's what I said till I saw blu-ray for the first time. There is no comparison between the two.
A blu-ray player will play regular DVD's. So you don't lose anything. You just start purchasing blu-rays which come with a regular dvd copy and a blu-ray copy...so you get 2 discs in both formats.
And....the moment you watch a blu-ray disc on a high definition LCD or LED tv, you will be hooked...like crack
Totally agree with you Derek! And it isn't just the AMAZING Picture that's the difference...it's the SOUND!!I did a comparison with Star Trek:TUDC...where the Klingon Moon explodes, and the Shock Wave hits the Excelsior. The difference is night & Day!! I was blown(pun intended
)away!!

Yes it is, thank you. And it took me an entire weekend non-stop to get it set up. I drilled a hole in the wall to the right of the black speaker which opened into a closet. I used some PVC pipe to make it neat and ran all of my power cables and excess speaker and other cables into it for neatness. Then I hooked all of the power cables into a large power strip and drilled another small hole down through the closet floor into the basement and ran a heavy duty extension cord along the rafter into my furnace room where I have a massive power conditioner that runs all of my computers down in my basement office. Now all of that electronic equipment is on the power conditioner AND the mess of it is hidden in my closet.
Let me tell you, that was a project. I had to hang the TV myself as well because my son is too busy with his senior year stuff (school musical, college, etc.) and if you want to know how heavy a 60" plasma is, let me tell you, it's friggin HEAVY!. But it was all worth it. My room is completely uncluttered, looks and sound GREAT! And I had plenty of room for some of my Mego collection.Comment

I also have a fantastic collection of vinyl. With all the great new equipment out there, I recently purchased a new turntable. While all the vinyl has been put on my iPod for car use, there is still nothing like the sound of a great record.
On a side note, I also have an 8-track player hooked up to my stereo system. Sometime the most obscure, weird music shows up at garage sales in the form of 8-tracks. I must have the equipment, however outdated, to listen to those odd finds."Do you believe, you believe in magic?
'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."Comment

I feel like I am one of the slowest adopters to new technology and just recently purchased an HDTV and blu ray player. I checked out a regular DVD on my normal DVD player and then looked at it again on the blu ray player. The blu ray upconversion feature really does have a noticeable difference.
Like others have said; I am not going to go out and repurchase blu rays of all the dvd's I own since watching them on a blu ray player is fine. I have purchased a few of my favorite movies in blu ray even though I own a digital copy.
The one really nice feature that was also mentioned is most blu ray movies have a blu ray copy and a digital copy which to me worth the extra few dollars for the blu ray version. I can play the blu ray version on my HDTV and use the digital copy on my other dvd players hooked up to my older TV sets."The farther we go, the more the ultimate explanation recedes from us, and all we have left is faith."

Actually, I hate to be the bearing of bad tidings, but most, if not all, digital copies will NOT play on other home DVD players. They are intended for use in computers and from there to be put on mobile devices such as iPod, phone, etc. They have a DRM system that makes you use a code to unlock the video and then it can only be played on that computer or any device that computer can upload to. They cannot just be placed into a home DVD player and played. At least none of the digital copies I have come across. And I am pretty certain they are all similar. You could conceivably get it on a computer and from there using video editing software get it burned onto a DVD that a home player would recognize, but that would be quite a hassle and you would lose a good deal of quality recompressing the video.Comment

I think you mean a regular DVD. Make sure. Because a "digital copy" is a different thing than a DVD.

That's the one nice thing about Disney, they often throw in a regular DVD version along with the Blu-ray disc (and a digital copy in addition too). I wonder if other studios will eventually follow suit? (although this does seem like an option that's particularly good for kids movies)Comment
