It was a good series.. Stephen Collins pretty much had the role down firmly, and it was fairly exciting TV. Critics mocked it as being too much of a 'Raiders' clone without as much substance or grit.

        Well, duh..

And besides, what's-wrong-with-that anyways..?? It still made for entertaining television watching.

It sounds like the consensus is that Mike indeed was right about it being a RAIDERS clone, so why on Earth Mike could even consider watching
          it is beyond me.

I mean, really, who watched TOTGM and said "Wow this is like RAIDERS,
          but BETTER."

Oh, it MOST definitely was, appearing on the Fall NBC schedule after the summer mega-success of 'Raiders', in the same manner as 'Galactica after Star Wars', 'Man From Uncle from James Bond', 'Monkees after Beatles', you name it.

Easily designed to ride the coat-tails of another successful movie.., same as the CBS show, but Gold Monkey was MUCH better by comparison. It really was an entertaining show.

              Did I read you right?

I never saw TALES...but are you actually saying it was "MUCH" better
              than freakin' RAIDERS?

Okay, you're the first one in this decently long thread to say it,
now can you or anyone else give a good reason WHY some short-lived
quick-clone TV show was better than one of the best movies of all-time?

The curiousity has me by the throat

^^^ I read it as much better than the CBS Raiders knockoff, Bring 'Em Back Alive.

Going back and re-reading, it certainly appears that THAT indeed was
the sentiment---at least I hope so

                      Well, I try my best

sTILL... in the context of what I posted right before that...I dunno...
it seemed like he was ponying up to be counted as one of the few that thought the simillar TV show was better than the blockbuster movie.

Anyways, if it's the case that NO one thinks that's the case...well...
as I said in that other post, then I don't know why Mike (someone
that wasn't satisfied with RAIDERS) would be even remotely
interested in viewing the TOTGM TV show.

If I recall TOGM was actually in the shot and in the cans before raiders but ABC didn't air it and after raiders they aired it. Hence it has more of a casablanca or maltese falcon feel rather than raider knock off.
Boxlietner in Bring em back alive was terrible
