Not being a big fan of Raiders of the Lost Ark I always assumed Gold Monkey was a rip off of Raiders so I avoided it.

Today I might give it a chance.

    Was it pretty good ?

I saw the pilot once on the Sci Fi channel. It was OK. I like Stephen Collins and Jeff MacKay (RIP) from Dr. Shrinker.

I loved this show. It was a total ripoff from Indiana Jones and attempted to ride the craze of archeology thrill-seeking adventures of that era, but the series pulled it off. The producers managed to mix in a bit of cornball humor with it and added a few story arcs that kept the show fun.

Not a TV series. The movie Romancing the Stone.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

I used to watch it...It was actually an ABC series though, not NBC. CBS had "Bring 'Em Back Alive" in a similar vein

I was 13 at the time and really liked the show, so I might check it out. I remember liking Jeff Mackay and Jack the Dog the best..

This is GREAT news! I have a bootleg copy that is pretty poor quality. I loved this show when it originally aired, I was 12 and was heartbroken when it got cancelled. I now have a cat named Jake Cutter, we just call him Jake. One of our company's projects in the very near future is an original sculpt of the Gold Monkey statue prop (the small one from the Louie's bar). It's on the drawing board already. I would love to meet Stephen Collins some day. He did a Trek show in Vegas last year, but I couldn't go. Here's hoping we'll see him at Dragoncon or something this year. Maybe we'll have Gold Monkeys for him to sign!

OMG I loved that show--never missed it and even enjoyed the re-runs on USA

(And yes, it was a "Raiders" rip-off, but well-done.)

I loved the show.It had a great theme song too! I'm a big "Flying Tigers" fan, who featured in the show at times (Jake himself was one once).Only problem was up here it got pre-empted a lot, and then dropped. I think we only got about 5 episodes broadcast in total. Bring 'em Back Alive was ok too, and based on a pre -Raiders tv and radio show, but it suffered the same fate.

                              Hmmmm....

It's VERY Raiders, but different enough to be a little more than a rip. Kindv'e a low-impact pulp series. I loved it when I was a kid, and I'm curious to see how well it holds up.
