What would you like to see on tv?

Hey everybody. As some of you may or may not know I'm a television producer here in Harrison AR. TO pay the bills I handle the news chores around here but as a part of my deal I can create and produce shows for the local audience. This is a sweet part of my deal for sure but I'm in a dry spell. I got nothing and am looking for input.

In the past I've done shows involving the paranormal (ghost hunters and such) and a talent competition similar to American Idol on a local level. I plan on going back to the well for those two types, but I want to do something new. So what do you think? What would you like to see on your local television station? The main think that is my motivation is producing things that area little bit outside the cookie cutter formula of current network programs. Sure there's nothing new under the sun but what do you think. What would make you adjust your rabbit ears again and turn off the satellite reciever?

Any thoughts would be appreciated my Mego friends...

    Jim

I would like to see a bust the cops show. Filming area police speeding, parked next to each other bs'ing with no radar on, making personal trips on our dime ect.

Seriously though, we have a local show here that's quite interesting.

It's a show that travels around to different factories in the state to show how things are made.

Factory owners are usually happy to get the publicity and the shows are very cheap to produce ... The field guys are usually a cameraman and lighting guy with the factory rep doing all the talking.

It's a pretty popular show around these parts ...
Factories are everything from The Crayola Crayon factory to small ones that handmake guitars.

            Your picks would be endless.

Local programming? there's only one choice, really...

WAYNE'S WORLD! WAYNE'S WORLD! PARTY TIME!

Seriously, How about an Antiques Roadshow or Cash in the Attic style show? Just don't have them searching out toys & Megos so the prices don't go up!

Hometown Heroes is a good theme. Spotlight 2 people or organizations that are making a difference in the community. Foodbanks, Emergency Services, Charities, Kids organizing fundraisers, etc. Promote the specials with short features on the local newscasts. Help the organizations get more attention during important times, like when the blood banks are running low, or whatever group feeds the most people around Thanksgiving, etc. Might not be earthshattering viewership, but should be able to be done with most of the resources in the newsroom, and could lead to local/regional emmy nominations (if those still exist).

I love that show. I remember the Martin Guitars one, and they also did one showing how pierogies were made. Mmmm, pierogies.

A local version of COPS might be interesting, too.

That was the first thing to pop into my head. Feel good television that might inspire others to do their part. Sort of a pay it forward thing.

Interview some of the old folks about town history.
Home improvement and landscaping with local businesses.
Local do it yourselfers that build hotrods or motorcycles without a budget.
                          Other local artists.
                          Skateboard or BMX competitions.
Take flying lessons, motorcycle safety course, technical driving school, rock climbing, scuba, skiing lessons; whatever fun things are available in your area.

I've always wanted to take a pair of homeless guys to a movie, then get them liquored up and have them review the movie. Like Siskel and Ebert but with Gary Bucey and Danny Bonaduce.

                              How about showcasing animal shelters?

Educating people about the evils of puppy mills and ill mannered breeders...and telling them to spay and neuter their own pets...and instead of buying pets...adopt them...thus sparing them from a sure death sentence.

                              That would be awesome.
