Before you have the piano tuned, you must let the wood acclimate to your house for about two weeks. The piano tuner we use is about $125. They recommend tuning once or twice a year. Every time a piano is moved from one house to another, it requires tuning. It does take about an hour and a half for an average tuning, and the piano tuner prefers quiet when they are tuning, so no kids allowed.

We were going to rent a piano for the kids to practice on, but the music store I spoke to said to just buy one, because after several years we would have paid enough money for the rentals. I'm so happy with our piano. It's an upright grand piano. I think it's made out of oak, and has real ivory keys. It's very beautiful and I just enjoy looking at it, and it was built in 1902 so it qualifies as a real antique.
