Cost to tune a Piano??

What is the general cost of piano tuning?
Answer
Depends on the quality of the technician and the years of experience like with any field. I know of one tech that charges $180 + for the tuning alone.
Most technicians do not include pitch raises or repairs. Pitch raises take longer and have nothing to do with the actual tuning of the piano itself. The piano must be brought up or, lowered to, pitch before the actual tuning can take place.
Repairs also have nothing to do with tuning. An average tuning takes about 1 to 1. 5 hours for most tuners.
Answer
The going price here in the Bangor area of Maine is about $100. The time it takes is at least 2 hours which includes minor adjustments, simple cleaning, and lubrication. There are added charges if there is a repair such as a broken string, replacement of saddle straps, or trimming of dampers that may be buzzing. -

We have 2 pianos (one at the church, one at home) and they cost around $75-100 apiece when we have it done.Comment

Last time I had it done it was $125 and I had some felts replaced.
If you are having the piano moved, you may want to check and see if there are any folks that do a combo type thing. Pianos don't like to keep tune when they get moved, so many times a company will move it and then tune it in its new location for a lower price than both things done seperately.Comment

We ran into a similar dilemma regarding pianos. My in-laws gave us an upright that belonged to them but we had to pay to have it moved and tuned (it had never been tuned). I don't even remember the cost now but it seemed like the two combined was worth more than the piano.
We ended up purchashing a weighted key digital piano that sounds just like a piano but requires no maintenance."The farther we go, the more the ultimate explanation recedes from us, and all we have left is faith."
