When is the last time you went to a Drive In? Does your area still have one or do they not exist anymore? What are some movies youve seen in a Drive In? Last time I went was back in 87 or so when they had a Horror Night where I lived at the time. It was the only drive in the area. All I remember was seeing C.H.U.D.

My parents claim the first movie I ever saw was Jaws at the drive in - I was 2 and they expected me to fall asleep. I have no memory of it though.
I have lots of other great drive-in memories, even though the films I remember seeing were sometimes pretty odd. "The Black Hole", "Legal Eagles" and "Author Author" are a few I remember seeing.
The last time I went was with my dad - For a lark we saw "The Rock" at the drive in. Actually it was "The Rock" and "Spy Hard", we didn't stay for more than 10 minutes after "Spy Hard" started. I think that drive in is gone now.Comment

The last drive-in theater I went to was about 17 years ago in Las Vegas. They used to have a three-plex on the outskirts of town. Honestly, I do not remember the movie that was playing."Procrastination is the art of planning for tomorrow."Comment

Last time I went to the drive-in was 1986 to see Aleins .....
It got rained out half way through and everyone got a raincheck
Next week the drive-in shut down so we all got screwed out of the movie.
So my year is 1986 as the last time I went to the drive-in.
We have none around today (and since then)Comment

There aren't any drive-ins around here anymore. The last one (in Union City) closed about 15 years ago. The last movie I saw there was Independence Day.
When I was a kid, my family was ALL about the drive-in. We saw so many movies and always went on the 4th of July where we could see the fireworks from the drive-in! As a little kid, I saw Willard, Herbie The Love Bug, and lots more; even some movies that I shouldn't have seen like Shaft, (my parents though I would fall asleep!). As a teen, in So. Cal I saw stuff like Ordinary People, Bronco Billy, The Never Ending Story among others. When I was married we went in the back of our pick-up w/ blankets and lawn chairs.
I really miss that experience. It's ashame that there are so few drive-ins left. It was a great way to spend a summer night!"Do you believe, you believe in magic?

Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic

We still have a drive-in, but I rarely go. Last movie I saw there was Iron Man, the movie I saw there previously was Independance Day (hey Hardy Girl!), so there you go, a bit of a gap.
I found that the drive-in was not really what I remembered as a kid...for one thing, they broadcast the sound over the car radio now. And without the speaker to tether you down, people didn't hesitate to move their cars around, shining headlights on the screen...in fact, the ownership kinda encouraged that by telling you you could feel free to move from one movie to another if you didn't like the second feature etc. Pretty stupid I thought. Plus, there were kids playng football, running around through the film. I wouldn't go back there, not really anything against the drive-in concept just the poor etiquette of the other film goers. Same I guess as idiots with cel phones in a regular theatre- rather wait 3 months for the DVD and watch it in peace at home.
Plus the drive-in was really only fun when you first got a car & a girl, know what I mean?Comment

My dad, mom, sister...and myself...all in a station wagon...watching Planet of the Apes in 1968...I was about five years old...I remember being terrified...and my dad was getting a big kick out of it...lol. My little sister was clueless though...she was still breast feeding...lol.
Great family memories indeed...nothing like old school drive-in's with your family.
I also saw Star Wars at the Oakland drive-in back in 1977 with my dad (that one had three screens, it's now a 7 days a week flea market)...but now I was aware of the low quality of the picture...so right after that...my dad and I went to San Francisco's Coronet theater...saw Star Wars there again...and we were both blown away...much better screen and sound of course.
I think right after that...I predicted the slow end of the drive in experience.
However...I got to experience one last drive in viewing.
It was back in 1994...I was vacationing in el Paso, Texas...I went there with some friends...and saw Tremors with Kevin Beacon...it was night time of course...but it was like 100 degrees...so we placed the little speaker outside the car...and watched the flick laying on the Texas desert...lol...fun stuff.
That was the very last time I went to a drive in.
Fun times.

My childhood drive-in (the Grand View in Angola, NY) was demolished recently. I heard it had been closed for some time. It was sad to drive past there this past summer and see it gone.
I can't recall the last time i went to a drive-in but it had to be the early to mid-90's. I think I saw Lost In Space at the drive-in. One of the last times I went i do recall a van off by itself that was doing quite a bit of rockin' (so don't come-a-knockin'...LOL).
I think the drive-in is more of a nostalgic thing for those of us that went to them a lot as kids rather than a viable option to see a movie. They just aren't that comfortable and there are more cons than pros compared to other venues.
We still have a six screen drive-in here in Scottsdale but I haven't been to it since I moved back out here 12 years ago. I do recall going there as a kid in the late 70's/early 80's.
I have been meaning to go but never seem to think about it.
This is the current list of movies:
West Wind Scottsdale 6 Drive-In
8101 E. McKellips, Scottsdale, AZ - (480) 949-9451
2012
Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel
Edge of Darkness
Legion
Sherlock Holmes
The Blind Side
The Book of Eli
The Lovely Bones
The Tooth Fairy
The Twilight Saga: New Moon
Up in the Air
When in Rome
I just found this website on old drive-ins and the Grand View is there.
Here's a pic of it:
and the link to read the story of it's demise and attempt to save it (from WALMART!).

Interesting facts there, too. It was the first Drive-in Theatre in New York state to feature radio-transmitted sound. Would've just celebrated it's 60th anniversary.

Fantastic Four was the last one I saw, every time I've tried to go since we've encountered movies the kids wouldn't enjoy.Places to find PlaidStallions online: https://linktr.ee/Plaidstallions
