That was a cool show and it is true that even with the advent of Ebay, Antiques Roadshow, etc. there are lot's of people out there with treasure troves of goodies with no idea what it is worth.
The old guy seemed like he was a hoarder. He had a whole barn full of stuff all disorganized but didn't want to part with anything no matter the price but it was clearly stuff that was just rusting away in his barn.

When they stopped at that old guy's farm, if I was him i'd be afraid they might thump me in the barn and steal my stuff.
I know for the show he was informed in advance, but in real life i'd be very wary of people stopping in off the street and wanting to see my stuff.
You would think it would be the other way around. You got two guys with what seems to be a good deal of money on them going to out of the way places. What's to stop the owner from shooting them and taking their cash? Bit of a stretch yeah but stranger things have happened.
they never buy anything quality. Maybe once every three eps.
it's a shame.
Looking for Green Arrow accessories, Doctor Who Sonic Screwdriver, and Japanese Popy Megos (Battle Cossack and France, Battle of the Planets, Kamen Rider, Ultraman) and World Heroes figures
I like pickers because they will actually pay a reasonable price for something instead to raping the person like pawnstars. I get too mad and can't watch an entire episode.

But it's too unbelievable.
They're businessmen who are interested in profits.
They're in a "feast or famine" kind of business
If those camera's weren't rolling there's no way they would offer more than what the seller asks for.
They'd be out of business in 2 weeks if they did that.
They can afford to be generous because History Channel is flipping the bill.
Every episode is pretty much the same story on Pickers, but I still watch it anyway for some reason. It's better than that idiot pest control guy or Dog the Bounty Hunter, man I can't stand that dude or his freakshow of a family.
At first I got annoyed at Pawn Stars, when they offer so little on a piece that is obviously worth more, but then I remembered that if you really want top dollar for your stuff you DON'T go to a pawn shop. Sell it at auction, or put it on consignment someplace. The people in pawn shops are either lazy, or don't care as long as they get something, or are desperate for money which is why they only take 40% of what it's worth. If you don't like the offer, you are free to leave. You can't blame to pawn guys for trying to get the most for their buck.
"Steel-like jaws clacked away, each bite slashing flesh from my body - I used my knife and my hands, and when they were gone, my bloody stumps - and yet the turtles came."

the exterminator guy cracks me up, especially when there's a raccoon involved
At first I didn't like either of these shows (Pickers & pawn Stars) but ever since the regular tv shows went on summer hiatus I've been really getting into both of these shows. I look forward to the new episodes.
I really can't stand the Bald guy on P.S. though. The way he laughs in people's faces when he asks how much they want and they give him a number too high for him to double his money. Just too cocky. I do like that doofus Chumlee, even though they probably exaggerate his oafishness.
I live vicariously through Pickers. I picture myself in those places digging through all that stuff. Sometimes I wish I could reach and move the camera to see stuff they scan by.
Both shows have people who I can see grating on your last nerve now and then.
Pawn Stars (and Pickers) does seem to almost have a formulaic thing going on now. Every episode someone brings in a rare historical artifact that he "must have" and has to bring in the 'expert' to verify it.

I've never seen any of these shows (well, I did catch a few minutes of Dog the Bounty Hunter in passing at a friend's house.) I haven't even heard of some of the shows you guys are talking about, but hearing about this stuff makes me feel like I'm probably not missing much by not having cable or an antenna. I think the world may have gone insane.
If people enjoy them, that's cool. They just don't sound like they're for me.
Love Pickers, but Pawn Stars is hard for me to watch. With Pickers the money is extra since the person wasn't planning on selling anything if they hadn't shown up. On Pawn Stars I think about the fact that the people are needing money and are getting a fraction of what it's worth. Not sure why it makes a difference to me, but it does.
